2009 servicing
Hi, i just purchased an 09 screw with the 6 speed tranny and no dipstick.
My question is - when flushing the trans in the near future, how do i or the mechanics know when the correct amount of fluid has been added? Do they use a special machine to flush?
Is there a dummy (check engine) light that will illuminate if the tranny fluid level is below minimum?

Have you read your owners manual? Page 388 addresses the 6 speed transmission as not having a dipstick and further states the transmission does not consume fluid.
If you have transmission issues the manual states "the fluid level should be checked if the transmission is not working properly (i.e. if the transmission slips or shifts slowly) or if you notice some sign of fluid leakage. Transmission fluid should be checked by an authroized dealer. If required, fluid should be added by an authorized dealer. Do not use supplemental transmission fluid additives, treatments, or cleaning agents. The use of these materials may effect transmission operation and result in damage to internal transmission components.
On a side note, the fuel fliter is now inside the fuel tank and is also considered "lifetime" and does not need servicing.
10-4?

There is a dipstick, it is just not easy to get to. It is on the passenger side of the trannie, right near the cat. You have to take off a small cap to get to it. And yes with the vehicle at operating temp, you better have some good gloves so you do not get burnt from the cat.
Thanks fellas,
I did see the small cap on the tranny, but are you sure there is a dipstick attached to this cap? Seems kinda strange if that is true.
I have a tow package on my 09, does that mean I have a tranny cooler in addition to the radiator? Or is that the power steering cooler I see up front?
When flushing do they disconnect the line near the tranny cooler?
Understood it does not consume, and it takes mercon V (synthetic).

It is a trannie cooler. In these, they do not have a PS cooler. Yes there is a little dipstick under the cap.
Check the owners manual, I am not sure it use MERCON V any more.
It now uses Motorcraft MERCON LV ATF. Assuming that is different than the old MERCON V.

Thanks again kingfisher, now that you mention I do remember seeing the newer mercon LV being specified in the manual.
I still wonder though, when flushing, how does one add the 16+ quarts of trans fluid into the tranny. It must be either thru the small cap underneath, which looks impossible, or by disconnecting the return pressure hose exiting the tranny cooler and using a small funnel on the open hose to fill it up.
