box alignment... WTF?

Hey guys, i have been silently flipping out since i put on my new wheels and tires. I thought i had 1 rim that was different from the rest, like backspacing offset or whatever.

So i was so disgusted last night that i blew off my plans to dig into the problem a little. So i pull off the rear pass. side wheel and check out the specs... 4.5" bs and a -12 offset... hmmm weird. Thats what i bought. So screw it, i'll pull off the rear driver side... same thing. Scratched my head and flopped the tire that was on the right on the left. and that side stayed the same. I then grabbed my tape and measured frame to wheel, rotator to wheel, caliper to wheel and then inner box to wheel and inner box to rotor. Turn out that my box is 3/4" off to the driver side at the back and 1/4" to the same side at the front. Something I would have never seen with my stock tires on, but WTF. I can also now observe a tapered gap between the box and the cab... another thing i didnt notice. I just don't get it. My truck is going into the dealer next week for the new trany TSB and a service, so i will have it corrected there, but does anyone know if the is adjustment for the box? wondering how and why it is so far out.

Just a heads up.

I think people have complained about stuff like this before and they have certain tolerance's they have to be within and i think some are as much as 35mm +/- and as long as it's within Fords specs then there's not a lot you can do about it. Someone will confirm these tolerances I'm sure.

No problems with my 09 but my old 98 F-150 was similar. Easy fix though for the 98. Loosen the bed mounting bolts and there was plenty of play to adjust and center the bed. Re-tightened the bolts and all was well.

I had the same issue with my 06 F250. Just loosen the bolts and you can shift it around by about 1-2 inches in any direction and then tighten the bolts. No biggie.

Mine box was the same way...not even on both sides. I just loosened the bed bolts and made it perfect, all good now.

Yeah, its not like rocket science to them guys on the line, we all think these are perfect swiss made machines and some things just are not. Not sure if the line workers just dont care, fatigue, or where it falls is where it sits? Mine appears to be off in some way or the other but when I originally discovered it (measuring wheel height), I went on to something else cause stuff like this makes me feel like I am O.C.D. and no one else is? Or, maybe I care and they dont?

lol, drive somebody with OCD crazy, measure the height of the wheel-wells from the ground and compare them left to right. They're rarely ever the same whether its by design or some other reason.

OMG, my truck is 1/2" higher on one side!

That's to make the truck look level when an overweight driver gets in it.

My 05 and 06 F250's have the bed a full 3/4 inch lower on the passenger side. THey look identically wrong even though they were built 10 months apart...

yeah wtf

Ya my new '09 has that even noticible with stock tires, drivers side rear sits in way more than passenger and is 3/4" lower. I was installing air bags anyway which fixed the height difference but still noticbly misaligned on the box.

My box is the same way, noticed it the first time I washed it. Box sits about 1/2" off to the passenger side. Someday when I get some free time I'll straighten it out.
