test drove 2009 today

I finally got around to stopping by my local dealer and checking out the 09's. looked at an XLT Screw 4wd w/ the 3 valve 4.6. Whlie the salesman and I were checking out the 09 the used vehicle manger was looking at my 02 screw Lariat 4wd. He said that he had a buyer intersted in my 02 since it was a clean 02! We talked for a while and the salesman went to talk to the used car mgr. Salesman said they were REALLY interested in my 02. So far I like the 09's a whole lot better than the 04-08 trucks. my only gripes bout the 09's is the goofy looking turn signals below the headlamps and the tailamps look like factory installed "eruo" lamps that I hate so much. So what I'm asking members opinions on is should I buy the 09? I still owe on the 02 as I bought it almost 3 years ago. Its been a really good truck and has NEVER let down b/c its a FORD!! I figure if they want my 02 this bad they would do anything and everything to put me in an 09. I know that the market is slow right now due to the economy and maybe they would be willing to make me a helluva deal to move an 2009!? What do you all think?

Don't let the lights bother you that much - there is so much more that has been improved with the '09!

Edit: - if you are going from a Lariat to an XLT, be very sure that you won't miss any of those creature comforts that you've gotten used to.

If you want to, and can afford it, then sure, go for it. Just because you have a desirable trade-in doesn't mean you'll get a killer deal though, but it might be worth a couple hours to see what you can come up with. Some markets are tougher than others so it depends on where you live as well.

Well the 09 pretty has all the same features as my 02 except for the leather. I dont mind the leather but even though I have tan leather It can be a pain at times to keep clean. I really prefer cloth anyway- When i bought my 02 i couldn't pass up the deal they made me as I really only wanted an extended cab xlt. Now that I have a screw I love the xtra room when I have pepole w/ me. I stand 6 ft 4 and in my current truck there is not any room behind me w/ xtra pepole in the cab- the 09's xtra 6in really helps out in that department

To me it would depend on what they give you for the 02 (payoff and then some, or just pay off), and what deal they give you on the 09.

Money aside I would get the 09. It is far improved. From the fit and finish to the ride it is an all around better vehicle. Now, when you bring the $ back into the equation it is as alomar said. If they knock $8k off of the 09 and payoff the 02 you are probably getting a good deal. If they are offering $3k under sticker and paying off the 02 you are getting screwed.

If it was me b/c I have a truck and I'm in no rush to trade I would wait and see what the 2010 offers. I feel you on the side mirrors especially on the Platinum. What a sexy truck but the side mirrors with the reflector I can't get with. Keep in mind that these are minor things and if you can live with them (b/c its your money) shoot for the stars.

I was just thinking that- I really do like my current truck but I think I'll only get the 09 if they make me an offer I can't refuse{ man I feel like I'm watchin the Godfather lol}

Did you drive one with a 5.4L for comparison? Personally I wouldn't go with the 4.6L especially if you plan to tow.

Don't rush into anything. Make sure you get exactly what you want. Remember, you have the upper hand!

Good luck with your decision. You won't be disappointed with the 09!

5.4 all the way. imo if ur gonna spend that kind of cash, it better be loaded, of course the salesman have a buyer for ur truck, u could go in there with an old fiesta and they will have a buyer if ur looking at an 09 pickup. they have acces to hundreds of used trucks, dont get baited by bull sht

I was going to test drive a 5.4 tonight but I got off really late from work.The salesman called me at 6:30 pm and I was still at work. While Im thinking bout it I was wondering if I got a f 250 v-8 crew cab short bed xlt
4x4 would I be in the same price ballpark? I like the f 250's look better than the 09 150{nothing against the 09 f150} the 250's just look tough to me!!
