I have this canoe I need to take around and found a great rack made by Thule called the 422xt Sportster. Here's a pic. Lucky to live near Onion River Sports in Vermont and they hooked me up. Its adjustable and have used it for other things like lumber and ladders and stuff.

I was just looking at one of these, list price is 599. How's the wind noise with this when the cross bars are up?

 

No discernable wind noise that I could hear, especially with the windows up. When not in use, I retract them down. The one near the cab doesn't fully retract because of the wheel well. Got it 20% off last week at ORSracksdirect.com. When I drove to see them, the racks just came off the truck and I think I also got an extra discount.
