Better than expected MPG

Well i drove from Roanoke to south Myrtle beach for the weekend and i was amazed at my MPG of 19.2 AVG and done less than half the tank from here to there. But get this. On the return journey i put Shell fuel into her which is a first for me and on the way home i was getting 22mpg AVG for about 100 miles on the flats of south Carolina. I was well impressed. That was with me and my wife, Bikes and luggage.

I always used kroger fuel until on the way home and it was only fuel station for some time and it was same price as home so i thought why not. It's the same Octane rateing also. I might try it some more in my home town and see how it goes. Good to hear im not the only one finding it's giving better MPG

Thats the crazy thing though 97Mark3 i have the 5.4 4x4 3.55LS platinum 6.5ft bed and it's qouted at 18 highway. I get around 18.4 in the mountains roads on long runs around here but that trip on the flat stuff blew me away. I was well impressed.

are you just going by your computer readout and also did you reset it after filling up?

My old 04 (5.4, 4x4, 3.73LS) truck got 19mpg in the flat Carolinas when I went to Myrtle beach, 17 mpg in the hilly parts of PA/WV. Haven't been on any long trips in my new truck yet.

Not this time Steve but every time i have done the hand calculations they have either been a 0.2+/- out from the computer every time i done hand calculations. The computer is very accurate which I'm also surprised at. Also i was getting better mpg using the cruise control on the flats.

My computer has landed about that accurately as well according to my manual calculations.

I just pulled a 600 mile trip each way this last weekend. I've got an XLT Screw 4x2 5.4 with the 3.73 rear. Did 70 mph pretty religiously on the way there and managed 20.6 mpg. Did 75 mph on the way back and did 19.1 mpg. Needless to say I'm pretty happy about the mileage. The 3.73 rear doesn't seem to create much of a mileage hit on the highway.
