Hardwire Valentine One

Does anyone know what/where I can find switched power up front? I want to hardwire my radar detector and need to tap a 12v switched power source. Either behind the dash or in the mirror? All the lighter ports are non-switched (always hot) which does me no good.

BTW: Its an 09 Platinum CC 4x4 with Navi.

Thanks.

Why not just run the wire to the fuse box? Use the straight cord (it should have come with a straight and coiled power cord), tuck it bhind the lip of the headliner, down the pillar, and your good to go.

I just did mine the other day and wired it in to the map lights in the headliner. The console up there pops out easy enough. Two wiring harnesses should be attached to it. The smaller, 3 wire one is for the map lights. The larger one is for the sunroof, rear window, etc.

The V1 comes on when the doors are opened or when the truck is unlocked, and stays on for a couple of minutes after you turn the engine off.

Overall works well, and it how I have it in my BMW as well. I like it coming on right away and not when I out the key in the ignition. Plus easier to wire, no need to run it over to the a pillar and then down. Well, ok, either way is easy but this is a tad bit easier

Tried that but all the spare fuses were hot? I was probably looking at the wrong ones...

there IS a switched one on the firewall on the passenger side. I hardwired my V1 as well... For some reason position #35 comes to mind, but test to be sure.

Funny, when I took delivery of this truck in November I was over at some other F150 forum (cant remember which one). I put a post of this very thing up and the moderators deleted it. It was a post on INFORMATION on what to do! Whichever forum it was, they loved posting pictures of 09's sitting on lots and talking about test drives. But they dayum sure didnt want to talk about anything informative.

A medium flat head screw driver under one of the corners facing the back of the truck to pop it out of slots holding it in. There are two slots in the back of the unit, and then it tilts down so the front can be pulled out.

It comes off pretty easy.

Today's project is connecting a cable up to the USB2 interface so I can put my iPod in the center storage bin

Looks like we are working in reverse. I did the USB2 bit yesterday. Now im on to the V1. So I got the console out. I tried using the map lite wiring. Obviously black is ground, but what about the other two wires? I tried connecting to the outer one, but then the V1 would not turn off? I left the truck closed and locked for 10 minutes and the thing was still on. So, i connected to the center one. V21 turns on when open the doors (like you said) but turns off then I start the truck? I guess I am somewhat challenged today...

Lol! I am just taking a break from doing the USB2 at the moment It is hot outside so needed a cool drink and some air conditioning.

The outer wire is the one I used. V1 stays on for a bit, never really timed it but it could be 10 mins or so. But it eventually shuts off just fine and starts back up when you open the door or unlock the truck.

Someday I may move it down to the fuse box and use a fuse tap for it. But I it was semi-dark outside and I just wanted to get it done while I had the time. But it works well and I don't mind it staying on for a bit after I turn the truck off.
