I had problems with the child safety lock on the rear driver side door over the weekend. When I engaged the safety lock (so that the door could only be opened from the outside) it would not allow me to open the door from the inside or the outside. The door was stuck closed all weekend and I had to load/unload my 2 year old from the other side of the truck along with my 5 year old. I had to take the truck back to the dealer this morning and they had to replace the child lock. It took them half an hour just to get the door open to replace the switch.

Now this afternoon, the child safety switch on the passenger side rear door is not working properly. I noticed this when I went to pick up my son from school. When the switch is engaged, the door will open from the outside like it is supposed to but now I can not disengage the switch so that you can also open it from the inside. When I put the truck key in the switch and turn it, it will not disengage the child safety lock feature.

The dealer even had a difficult time with the switch that they replaced earlier today. Why did Ford do away with the old style switches on the child safety locks? All you had to do then was to slide the switch from OFF to ON or vice versa. This new safety switch that uses the truck key does not seem to be durable and does not feel right when you turn it with the key inserted. Anyway, just wanted to share this and see if anyone else has noticed this or had similar problems. If you have little ones, you may want to go ahead and check this out to avoid problems down the road.
