Platinum Running board noise

About two or three weeks old and running board makes a noise on driver's
side just as it comes up and stops. Makes a click sound like a gear or some kind of metal clip skips or hits something. Got under and checked it out and could not find anything. May be in control motor.
Took it to dealer and they said it does not have any adjustment and just ordered a new one. Go figure.
I did get notice of recall in mail for brake light switch. Mine seems to work correctly, but they can check it. Not a big deal.

My running board does the same thing. I squirted a bunch of wd 40 on it and it stopped. I am going to have the dealer take a look at it when I get the brake light recall fixed or when I get the oil changed.

Smile PLATINUM 1st wash!

My driver side makes a squeeky kind of sound when deploying, but not retracting. Maybe I'll fire some WD-40 on it when I get around to thinking of it. Doesn't bother me too much, of course it's the worry of "is it leading to something more or is it just grit in the mechanism" that worries me.

My only complaint in my '09 PLAT is still the strange "creakys" that I get while driving and hitting any bump at all, no matter how small. Again, sometime I'll get around to trying that shim idea one guy tried, stuff like that, maybe find out where they are coming from.

I washed her for the first time today, and have to say the White Sand Tri-Coat really comes clean very easily compared to my past 3 F-150's, and the tires especially were amazingly easy to clean. Those PLAT wheels clean up so nice it's crazy. On my '04 Lariat there was always brake dust that was permanent on the wheels no matter what you did. Was very pleased with the ease of washing, normally I have to spend forever on the bottom portions of my truck trying to get those tiny tar spots off with my fingernails and wash cloth or wax pad. They came right off of my white sand with just a little pressure of my hand with the wash sponge.

Not sure if it's just because it's only 6 weeks old or so, or if it's due to the tri-coat process, or if it's just a much better clearcoat process that Ford is using now compared to in 2004/1998/1997. At any rate, very pleased, brushed aluminum grille and tailgate applique cleaned nice and easy, no scratcing or swirling, wasn't sure how delicate those materials would be when washing. Also LOVE how little black plastic crap there is on the '09. A little bit on rear bumper and front bumper, but not entire bumper area for either. And the bed rail tops and the "ice cube maker" windshield cowl. That's it! Those areas suck to keep looking new. This time around I am not putting any "black" crap on them until I see actual fading due to age. I believe those "black" cleaners/restorers make them fade quicker and worse than just washing them with a brush and that's it.

Guess I went way off topic, sorry, but it was my first wash, very exciting.

I'll have to wax her soon, throw some chrome polish on the tailpipe & tow hooks, and get some Rain-X on the glass. Inside is still spotless, although I really should search for where those "creakys" are coming from...

Mother's Back to Black on the few trim areas the trucks have. Worked wonders on my old truck and plan to use it on my new FX4 which is at the lot waiting for me.

I tried Mother's back-to-black on one of my previous trucks, and absolutely hated it. The past 5 years or so I've been using Meguire's Trim Shine in the spray can, exceptionally easy to use and worked very well. I would order them online since no stores ever had them. The problem is, the longer you use it the more the trim seems to fade.

For example, I used it since buying my 2004, and the trim would always fade and then look better with an application of it. But I had my lightbar on there for about 3 years or more and the legs always looked fine. But one day I thought, "Hmm, I'll spray the legs of the lightbar too and make 'em nice and shiny black." Well, from that point on the legs of my lightbar faded like mad. I'm starting to believe these black treatments actually fade the trim worse than nature by far. On this truck I'm not using anything, just a scrub clean and dry, that's it. If it does start to fade naturally then I'll go looking for something at that time. No more badly faded bed rails for me, please.

I worked on my truck more today, and will say cleaning the PLAT grille is a fun task... cleaning between each mesh is tons 'o fun... still trying to figure out what works best to clean the brushed aluminum grille pieces and tailgate applique. Brushed aluminum doesn't seem to like anything: chrome polish, glass cleaner, etc. Kinda strange, will keep trying different products.

Chrome tipped exhaust cleaned up really nice. FWIW, I would suggest to anyone who has one to clean it frequently; as I imagine the gunk would build up to a point where you'd never get it all off if you didn't keep up with it.

I never used anything on those black trim pieces on my old 04 truck, and by the time it was over 4 years old, it was starting to show some signs of fading. I still never applied anything to it and this past April it would have been 5 years old but I traded it in back in February.

So, I won't be applying any of that stuff on my new 09 either.

Comet i use a very fine plastic polish (last stage of a 4 stage kit for sunbeds) on the platinum grill and tailgate and it works great. It's the only thing i have used that leaves no smuges and haze. It also remove bugs well. it also makes he gloss b pillers shine and removes all scratches.

Very good. Did you pick it up from that online place you get your other cleaning products from, or is it something you got at a retail store?

BTW, I use auto glass cleaner and/or Rain X on the gloss pillars, always worked great on my '04 gloss pillars as well. Gets those stubborn water spots out.

Oh, and WD40 on running board did no good for noise, sounds like dirt is trapped in one side that's making the noise, nothing like a mechanical failure issue.
