Aftermarket ehaust...your thoughts!

I'm thinking of getting an aftermarket exhaust (Flowmaster 40 or 50 series) applied to my 2009 F150, but I don't want to compromise the intergrity of the quiet interior too much. This will be the first time I've ever had an exhaust applied to my vehicle and, as simple a thing as it is, I don't want to regret this decision afterward. I understand the Flowmaster 40 and 50 series differ very little with the exception of the 50 series having a slightly more tolerable interior sound. Has anyone applied an aftermarket exhaust to their 2009 F150? and if so...What was the result of the application? Were you happy with the interior and exterior sound? And would you recommend the application?

Please specify which brand and model you decided on, Thank you in advance for your response.

Shawn

If you look on youtube there is a video of a guy putting a 40 series flowmaster on an 09. It sounds really good to me.

the 50 series is pretty quiet.

I had it on for about a week then scraped it for a 40 series.

I've got an 03 but the sound won't change much.

You just probabaly have better sound deadening so you won't hear it as much in the cab.

i have the magnaflow kit that has the dual pipes straight out under the bumper.when you are cruising at say 55 ,level ground its like stock.give it gas to keep your speed up like when you come to a hill you WILL hear the exhaust.about the same as my 06 gt mustang, not over abusive but you will hear it.i dont think any aftermarket muffler will be as quiet as stock.

Flows are solid chambered steel cans. They will all make some reosnance. I prefer Magnaflows for a quieter cruise. I run the 5x11x20 body I think it is. 14568 on my Lightnings.

I too prefer the magnoflow series. Even a 9x4x18 will have a quieter tone in the cab.

I think the 5x8x18 comes on the Magnaflow OE catback.

I wanted the same thing as you have the 08 lariat I listened to both 40 and 50 series on utube and on trucks. If you look at flomasters catalog the outside sound is almost the same 40 is a bit louder. Biggest difference is the 50 is about40-50% queiter on the inside of the truck. You still get deep sound on outside, but no were near the sound on the inside. I have the 50 series delta flow. Ive had many compliments on the sound of the exaust. The muffler shop i went to didnt sell 50 series only 40, so i orderd it at jegs.com. Had the shop install it and now they sell the 50 series in there shop. The owner was impressed he didnt thing that it would sound as good either. My wife wasnt to into me getting exasut but when she rides with me she says that it very nice not to lound, you can still have a conversation and listen to radio at low levels. Its a si/do stainless tips.
When you step on it you can deffinetly hear it. I didnt want anything so lound that in the morning it makes the neibors mad. Plus i didnt want to get a head ache wile driving.

I had an 18" Magnaflow installed on my '09. It is acutally a little louder then I would like. It starts getting loud at about 19k RMPs. I had a 50 series Flowmaster on my '07. It was quieter inside the truck. If I did it all over again, I would probably go back to the Flowmaster.

Hello all. This is my first post on this forum, but I have been lurking around for a few days. I'm a member of another online forum, but as of late the conversation over there has turned to nothing but bashing the new F-150 by people who don't have one. The conversation over here seems a little better to me.

As far as the exhaust, here is something to consider. I think the factory muffler on the '09 is a straight flow-thru design. I've never seen a cross section of one, but I've been told this from a few people. If this is true, I would probably lean towards an aftermarket one that has a straight flow-thru design as well like Magnaflow or Borla to keep the same performance. Last time I checked (been a while) Flowmaster used baffles in their mufflers, which I would think would be more restrictive than the factory muffler.

It is funny how hardly anyone ever mentions Corsa,I know they are expensive, but once you have one, nothing else sounds even close.Plus there is zero drone at speed, they use true sound cancelation. It is possible to just buy the muffler, and get whatever exit you want installed.

My buddy has a Flowmaster 40 series SI/DO on his 2007 F-150 crew, and there is NO drone on the highway. If the 2009 is even quieter inside, I don't think you'd have any problems with the 40 series. Get one, you'll love the sound.
