I am not a big fan of the six speed so far,I do mostly City driving, and I find it always searching for gears. It has this annoying downshift, when I am at a stop and gently pulling away.

How many miles do you guys have on your trucks?

Mine was the same way when I first got it, but it seems better now (or I'm just used to it :o )

I have around 7500 miles.

Guys, I think my 6 speed is great. Have 500 + miles on truck. I came from a 97 F350 diesel with E4OD 4spd auto that always had an odd shifting to it. This new six speed is very smooth. Yes I can feel some down shifts when slowing or starting up and not coming to a full stop. It is a truck and I do not expect car like shifts or feel. May be I do not have as harsh shifts as yours.
Just my thoughts.

The downshifting is normal as it's dropping gears to slow you down but i aint had the shifting problem at all. Mine climbs gears and i can hardly tell. I find it stays in a higher gear longer than it should do and i would like it to dropdown a little earlier when i put my foot down to overtake but thats the way all auto i have driven have been. So far the 6 speed has been a very good trans. A lot better than the nasty 09 dodge i used for the weekend and worlds better than the 4 speed in the last gen f150's we have at the office.

I have 5,000 plus miles on mine and think the tranny is great. I do get the odd 1-2 shift when cold, but only 1% of the time.

yea this is really annoying me..i have an 09 fx4 and was sitting in stop and go traffic today and every time i come to a stop the tranny feels like it is dropping down to a lower gear and the truck lurches foward a small bit......BUT ITS NOT THE 1-2 SHIFT.....i put the truck in 1st gear and the same thing happens...when in 1 it is only in 1st gear so its obviously not shifting..it feels like something is engaging or catching from the tranny to the diffferential every time...any way try it for yourself.put your truck in 1st and the same thing happens

Is this something that affects some trucks and not all trucks? I swear I don't notice the lurching forward at a stop.

Not only no problems with mine, but I love the 6-speed, it's made a world of difference in power from a stop. Done absolutly nothing for mpg though, exact same as my 2004.

I have not noticed this either. At least two trucks don't "lurch forward at a stop"

Im in stop and go traffic here all day every day and it's been super smooth. Dont forget if you tap the brakes and let of it drops down gears. As an example you come upto traffic going pretty quick and then tap the brakes to slow down then let of the brakes a bit so you can coast then tap the breaks to slow down a bit again then the trans will keep changeing down gears. If you brake constant till you need to stop or pull away again then you wont notice the trans down****fing. But when coasting you notice the trans downshifting. The good thing about the down****fing is the gear you need to be in for that speed is right in it's powerband so your ready to do again. Every other car i drove thats auto will have to drop all them gears to get going again when your in moving traffic.
