Thoughts on new truck after 2 weeks

Have had new F150 Platinum for two weeks now and have some thoughts on good and bad.
I may be a little more impressed with the overall truck because my previous ride was a 97 F350 crewcab 4x4 diesel bought new. Last and only F150 was a 93 supercab. My other trucks were three F250's, 2 regular cabs, 1 supercab.

First standout dislikes or disappointments, floor mats very crappy for a top of line truck. Two papertowel sized rear mats. My 97 had better mats.

Interior lighting is very basic. No low door or floor lights, no rear map lights overhead. Basically needs some extra lights.

Pedals do not go down far enough toward firewall. Has plenty of leg room but like I have read that someone else wrote, when you reach your distance from wheel that feels good, pedals do not go any further, and they feel too close. Your legs are not quite comfortable yet. Can live with this. No choice.

This one I also heard mentioned.
The seams in the bed that meet the sides and the bed floor have gaps that should have been welded or sealed in some way are not. Check this out looks like all trucks are this way. Noticed on a truck that had been sprayed with Line-X. Mine is this way also. Is it a flex point ???
Enough about those things, mostly minor.

The truck is really awesome overall !!

Nav system will keep you busy for weeks and is very cool with Sync.
phone, phonebook and hard drive are very neat to use.

Cab has great room and storage places.

Seats are very very comfortable, heat and cool is just that COOL.

Ride feels great, stable, not rough. Very good turning radius compared to my 97 with long bed.

Was concerned about mirror size, maybe too small or bad visibility. Was surprised and they will be great when pulling boat.

Engine power I think is very good even with only 200 + miles. My 7.3 diesel even with turbo was not a rocket. Will see how it gets later.

We really like the truck a lot, I think Ford put a lot of things in this truck, Very well pleased. It may seem like I had more dislikes, but just some things that bugged me.

I was the one that brought up the gaps in the bed. I had LineX sprayed a couple of weeks ago and most of those gaps are now filled in. There are still some gaps at the header along the ribs of the floor that I can still see daylight but just enough that water will drain.

Only thing I don't like so far are the little "creaks" I get every time I hit any type of bump in the road. They come from both driver and passenger sides, not sure where exactly, somewhere from the door/b-pillar area behind or next to driver/passenger heads.

Not sure "creak" is the right word, tiny little noises maybe like plastic against plastic or plastic against paint not sure really. The truck is so incredibly quiet that these little creakys bug me all the time, any little bumps in the road. Sometimes driver side, sometimes passenger, sometimes both. Maybe depends on size of bump or what side bump was on?

Anyone else have a PLAT and have these occasional little "creakys"? Any solutions would be nice.

For a noise example, press down hard on the little patch where the windows switches are in the rear doors. That plasticky creak sound, that's what it's like (though I don't think it's from there, but sounded similiar when I was searching for what the cause could be).

I have a "chatter" coming from the front right wheel when I hit bumps. Talk about annoying. I'm trying to isolate the issue myself before having the dealer do his trial and error thing.

Even though the pedal distance is electronically adjustable? Really? I'm 6'1" and find my Plat more comfortable than my wife's BMW. Maybe its personal preference.

I was being driven nuts by an occasional rattle ... only to find out the same thing - the seat belt clip against the pillar!

Well I figured out the seat belt chatter a couple of days after I had my truck. Daughter never puts it back correctly after riding in the back. Sigh. The only other creak or click I have is in the driver's door back by the door lock. If I press against the wood panel area with my elbow the sound goes away. Annoying with the quiet cabin but I really hesitate to have the dealer mess with it as they would probably cause more rattles or worse - scratch the door panel. I know someone stated they had that problem (or one similar) and put a plastic piece in as a shim...I am not doing that on this level of truck but may take the panel off myself...just don't want to loosen anything that was tight before (and positioned properly at the factory).

I do agree that the lighting could be better in the cabin - no excuse for no reading lights for the passengers.

jvos, I am 6' tall also. I prefer my legs to be a little more stretched out. The pedals are all the way down. My wife's Explorer has this feature and it is much better. If you get leg distance right, steering wheel feels too far away.

Interior lighting- I was at dealer with my wife's Explorer and was in show room and noticed F150 inside that was an XL,XLT, not a Platinum. No moonroof, and it had a back overhead light near rear window that had two map/reading lights on each end of center one like my old truck. Don't know if it is a roof line thing with moonroof or not. But light was nicer than in Platinum.

Lighting – I agree with the lighting. They could use more. One thing that has been missing on later models (and maybe the upper end models do have them) is a light in the engine compartment. My 06 did not have one either. I remember the early 90s full size Bronco no only had a light, but it was on a retractable cord with a magnate that could be places almost anywhere in the engine compartment. Those were the days!

I had a creak/rattle from the rear passenger door and fixed it with a rubber shim between the door frame and the door panel. Seem like something inside the panel that would hit the door frame when you hit a bump. To find it you need to have someone sit back there and listen for it while you drive to try and pinpoint it.

CometFlash: I get the exact little creaks, from the driver and passenger sides. It seems to be comming from the upper seatbelt roller? My platinum has 1000 miles , and I had the creak since it was new. When I don't have the tunes cranked up, i'll try to figure it out and let you know, if you find out please let me know.

Will do. Looking at maybe 2nd week in May for a vacation, should have time then to find (hopefully) and stop those creakys!

I have some occasional creaks as well, but only when going over bumps. Mine seem to originate from the two back door panels somewhere, but I haven't really been bothered enough to investigate further because they are rare and I usually have the music turned up. I've got 1075 miles so far on mine and the creaks seemed to have started a few hundred miles ago.

Nice review mg5ford. I totally agree with everything you said
