just got pulled over

so i am fuming right now,

this statey passes me going 60+ in a 45 mph zone, turns around and pulls me over about 4 miles down the road, saying my tint is too dark, he could not see the license plate displayed in the back window. I still have the temp tag in the back that the dealership put in. I told him that it is factory glass and that the dealership put the tag there, he takes all of my paperwork for 10 minutes and gives me a written warning for improper display.

now, i know that there is a fed grant for these officers to write additional tickets through the end of the year but this is utterly ridiculous. every time I questioned him to the problem he would make up another reason for the stop then I would go through that one(I am in sales and used his excuses as objections and overcame every one.) I did only get a warning but I know this guy really wanted to give me a ticket. I do wish I had my camcorder to video this guy.

I used to work in law enforcement, so I am not anti-cop by any means, but individually some of the guys are just power hungry jerks.

thanks for letting me vent.

it's in the back window, what's the problem, it is a paper temp tag that will not last in the weather

If it's only a warning, there's no financial impact, you could let it go.

the fact is that the guy was a ***** about it as well

We were heading west with the sun setting and there would not have been any way for this guy to see anything in his rear view mirror, at the spped that he was going,

plus like I said I needed to vent a little, there are some thing more important than the financial impact.

I agree with your principle. You could call his superior and talk about the stop but I doubt that will not bring any result. What would you like to do?

These are the type of cops that give every other cop a bad rap.

That is ridiculous that he pulled you over for factory tint.

He didn't pull him over for factory tint. He pulled him over because his tag was not properly displayed.

As far as temp tags, my dealership laminated my temp tag so it could be mounted in the proper location and survive the weather.

I know in Florida, its illegal to display your tag in the window tint or no tint. The tag cannot have any type of cover even if its clear. You can also get a ticket in Florida if you have a frame on your tag that obscures the county part of the tag at the bottom. A lot of dealer frames (and vanity frames) cover that area with a place that has the dealership name printed. The law is rarely enforced though its caused a few news stories before.

The OP's frustration is something many of us have experienced at one time or another. I've been ticketed in the past for very minor offenses and for a few hours my reaction is like "thats BS, it shouldn't have resulted in a citation", but then I cool down eventually and come to the realization no matter how small the infraction, I still broke the law.

I'm glad there was no citation given to the OP in this instance.
