oil life

Does anyone know how to reset the oil life reminder back to 100% after an oil change? I have not read all of the manuals yet, so I thought I would ask here first.

From the owners manual

Oil Life XXX% HOLD RESET = NEW

An oil change is required whenever indicated by the message center.

USE ONLY RECOMMENDED ENGINE OILS.

To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change [approximately 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or six months] perform the
following:

1. Press and release the SELECT/RESET stem to display OIL LIFE = XXX% HOLD RESET = NEW.

2. Press and hold the SELECT/RESET stem for two seconds and release. Oil life is set to 100% and “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%” is displayed.

3. While “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%” is displayed, if a lower oil life start value is desired, press and release the RESET control to reduce the start value. Each press of the SELECT/RESET stem reduces the value by 10 percent. Note: Oil life start value of 100% equals 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or six months. For example, setting oil life start value to 60%

Wait a second. Does the 2009 F150 have a oil life indicator rather than a fixed X km / mile change interval?

The salesperson told me that it was a fixed schedule every 8000 km.

I have found that with an automatic oil life indicator on my Honda Odyssey, I have to change oil every 10-12k km - a lot less frequently than if I was going by a schedule given my mostly highway driving.

Or is it simply that it just counts the km/miles and time since the last time the light was reset?

It counts down from 100% based on distance driven. 7,500 miles is the scale. 3,250 miles driven since reset will leave the oil life indicator at 50% and so on.

The indicator can be reset to start at less than 100% upon an oil change if more frequent service is desired. In other words, you can start it off at 50% and upon indicating 0%, the vehicle would have been driven about 3,250 miles.

Question

I haven't even looked yet underneath my truck.

Is the oil filter in an easy to reach spot, like the 1997 had?

Or is it in an absolute nightmare location, such as the 2004 had?

It isn't bad, but it is no where near as easy as our 97's were where it was just behind the bumper. I am going to look for the type of filter wrench that fits over the end of a FL-820S oil filter. I plan on then using a 4 - 6" extension and a ratchet to make the oil filter removal easy. I have the smaller filter wrench, but it only fits the filters on my Harley.
