Questions about an 09

It has been awhile since I have been on this site. I had an 05 F150 but I downgraded to an Explorer while I am/was in school. I am think about getting an 09 F150 sometime this year.
My 05 was white. The problem I had with the white was rail dust. Atleast that is what the dealer said it was. It looked like little specks of rust. I would have to use a claybar to get it off. I don't remember having it with the last white car I had before the truck. What really causes this rail dust? Doe sit happen to all white vehicles?
I been going back and forth between the FX4 and a Lariat. Car you get a Lariat without the woodgrain dash?
I am sure as I keep looking around I will have more questions.
Thanks
Eric

The rail dust happens to all vehicles. It's more obvious with white. Lariats only come with woodgrain.

I just thought it was specks of road tar that turns that rust color after it's on there for awhile. I just use some bug and tar remover and it comes right off.

The best way to stop contamination of the paint is to wax it every 3 months and less if you can be bothered. It makes cleaning a lot easier and takes containments a lot longer to eat into your paint work. For example you get pigeon crap on your paint work and within a few hours it will damage your paint. I left some on for days with a good wax and it's been fine. Same goes for brake dust, tar, dirt, bugs and what ever else you hate to get of your car. A good wax works wonders plus it makes your truck look so so nice.

A clay bar, and a coat of wax will usually do. I've got a white 06 FX4, and I go over my truck a few times a year, and sometimes I see rust specs on the tailgate. Takes about 10 minutes to get 'em all.

Thanks for the input guys. These type of sites are always helpful. I dont mind waxing my truck, the tough part is I live in WI and having a place to wax it during the winter. Maybe I will get another white truck. It is easier to keep clean vs a dark color. Now do I want a FX4 or a Lariat? Would i be able to put a chrome grill on a FX4?

The Grilles from all models are interchangable,I saw a silver Fx4 the other day at the dealer, that had the Platinum Grille installed. It looked sharp, almost seamless with the silver truck color.
