Sony System

I have an 09 XLT supercrew and my father just bought an 09 FX4. He has the factory navigation and sony system. I was wondering if my truck might be pre-wired for the rear subwoofer, it has the indentions in the floorboard for the mounting bracket. If not how hard would it be to install one in my truck. Thanks!

I dont know about the 09's, but on the 04-08's, the plug for the subwoofer, if there, is usually tucked into the rails somewhere along the underside of the back seat. Look at your dads and see where his wires are coming out at, then look in the same area of your truck. It may be hidden well.

Also, welcome to the site...we do have a dedicated Audio section. Be sure to check it out, lots of good info over there.

it's probably because yours is an XLT and the Sony system is not even an option on the XLT.

For example, on the 04-08's, only some FX4 and Lariat owners were able to find the sub plug in the slit in the carpet. The models below the FX4, not at all.

So maybe some 09 FX4 and Lariat owners without the Sony system may get lucky and find the sub plug under their rear carpet.

You can get the Sony on an XLT...that's what I have on order at least. I know you cannot get the NAV, but you can get sync and Sony.

I see you're in Canada so it must be a Canada thing only.

The US order guide does not list the regular Sony system (non NAV) as an option for the XLT.

Weird that they would have different setups on audio based on destination. When I was ordering I also noticed some other variations, like convenience package, and flint interior colour. I wonder how many other differences there are.

Well then i'm wondering how hard it would be to install that speaker from scratch for lack of a better word. The wires that came out of the speaker on his didn't feel like regular amp wire at all, it felt more like three or four regular speaker sized wires. Also i wonder if there is preamp outputs on the factory radio or you would have to use a loc.

You're probably better off going with an aftermarket sub set-up. You'll get much better sound. The Sony system does sound good for factory, but there are too many possibilities with aftermarket gear.

Good luck!

Do not get the sony sub it's not worth it the sound isn't that great. Go with an aftermarket system like KenWood or Kicker. I have a 08 loaded FX4 and my system IMO a lot better all around then my brothers 09 loaded FX4.

Your brother must have the basic sound setup then. The premium system sounds much better than the 08 premium system. But if the OP aint got the premium system and needs a better sub and HU then after market is really the only way to go and it will be just as easy to intall. Prob easier seeings you will def have pre outs.

I should hope so as if he don't have one and he has premium audio then there's something up. Also about the audio quality of the new 09. I have seen some reviews saying it's the best factory unit they have ever heard. From any vehicle and i have to fully agree. I have had Becker, Harmon Kardon, alpine and Clarion factory setups and the Sony system sounds way better than all of them. The only one that sounded better was my $5000 Kenwood nav screen setup with Rockford fosgates all round and 15" sub with 2kw amp and to be honest it went louder but didn't sound as nice as the Sony factory system They have done a fine job on this system. I watched some DTS codded test dvd's the other day and was blown away at how nice it sounded. The pod racing scene on starwars had the nice deep rumble i have come to expect from a good surround sound setup and the 5.1 surround sound functions very well for how close the speakers are to each other and you.

Here you go, here's a quote for the audio review. Exactly how i feel about it. The 08 didn't never sound like that lol.

"For 2009, Ford has partnered with Sony to offer a premium sound systems in the F-150 and in our sample Lariat, the acoustics were incredible, with a crisp, clear sound normally reserved for high end luxury sedans"

Ok he does have the 700watt sub in the back passanger seat. We just compard both of our trucks and mine has a ton more bass then his along with better acoustics. It seems that there is a hugh lack of bass compard to mine it's a fine system all in all but it can't keep up to my 08's system.... I mean... we just tested it out and had 2 other people listen to it and they favored my truck over his. It seems that my sub is really flat and lays in the back dirvers side but I don't know who makes it is maybe there is a way to take off the plastic cover that its in...

I don't know if he can just add another 700watt sub to his truck without haveing to up size the amp's wattage output, but he is looking into getting somthing better.
