Tracking a VIN

Is anybody on this forum able to track a VIN of a truck while I'm waiting for it to come in? I'm looking to see where it is in the process to getting to me, and when I should expect it.

Thanks in advance.

Brandon

I've heard they don't do that anymore. In years past some guys here who worked for FMC would track your VIN for you, and there were some sites too I guess, but they're all gone now from what I've heard on this forum.

Your dealer is the best person to keep you informed. He/she should be contacting you each time a new piece of info comes down to him/her.

For example, my dealer contacted me with my Order Number, Build Date, Revised Build Date and Arrival Date each time he received the updated information.

I may be wrong on this, but isn't an F-150 built in 1 day (or any vehicle for that matter)? They produce hundreds of these things a day. My understanding was when your order hit the manufacturing stage, it went right down the assembly line and was done the same day. I could certainly be wrong, though. I bet ScrewBuilder or DearbornDerek, maybe Quintin, could answer that for you. I think they all work for FMC.

Oh boy!!! Just saw this so had to use it! A new smilie!

CF - I believe you are correct in that vehicles are normally built within one day. After being built they can be delayed for any number of reasons, going to the paint shop for special effects or minor damage repair, emissions testing - every so often vehicles are taken from the new build inventory and tested at random, shipping - the vehicle can sit on the ramp for several days (or longer) waiting on a rail car, once in transit the railroads have "mixing yards" where they maximize train loads and it can sit on a siderail for several days (or longer) there....or it could be built, loaded/shipped right away and make it uninterruped to the destination point rail yard and onto the auto transport to your dealer...this is what we all hope for anyway

My dealer here in town told me that the trucks used to take only 1 day to be built, but now days they take about 4 days. My build date was march 9(monday) and it was loaded onto a train on that friday. Now I am impaitently waiting for it to get here(hopefully befor April 1st when gov. arnie imposes a 1% sale tax increase)

Yuppers, my 2004 was tested after it was built. Had the sticker on the windshield and a bunch of miles on it, forget how many, maybe 20? 40? I forget. What amazes me to this day is how they could test it all those miles and no one ever noticed the missing paint spot they clearcoated over on the lower driver passenger door??? How emabassing for Ford! :o
