Anyone purchased the Ford ESP Premium?

My dealer is throwing in an extended service plan on my 09 FX4 to 5 year/100k miles on the powertrain only (I think most dealers are doing this) to supplement the 3/36 bumper to bumper.

However I am looking at the 7yr/100k premium ESP (which I read as a bumper to bumper) for $1,085 online.

Has anyone who bought new recently talked to a dealer about upgrading the 5/100 powertrain they are offering (which appears to cost $485 online) and paying the difference?

I also noticed that the Ford Direct online ESP plan offers 10%/11 months interest free to pay for it.

Seriously considering this, would love to hear experiences.

You may want to read the coverage limits on the ESP - I don't think they are bumper to bumper. I never buy an extended warranty from the dealer - I get a better deal on line through other Ford dealers. I had the 100K Premium on my 06 KR and never used it, but I guess it was a good piece of mind - it cost me $870, but that was in 2006. They start when the truck goes into service, so really you are getting 2 additional years or an extra 40K miles (off the 5/60 power train warranty).

Good luck.

EDIT: And if you do decide to get the extended warranty, you can get any pro-rated money back when you sell/trade the truck. I got just over half back when I traded the 06 KR.

Don't forget, the cost of the Extended warranty is TOTALLY negotiable. I got my dealer to knock $600 off mine. I always add bumper to bumper extensions ever since I had a $4K computer board go out on my Landcruiser.

Yeah all it takes is one major repair.

You know the piece of mind is worth something. I bought a 2006 300C SRT8 and once my 3/36k expired I just felt uneasy about the car so much so that I know it played a factor in my trading it in at 51k miles, even though it runs exceptional.

Can you please post up where you are getting the 7 yr/100k premium ESP for $1,085?

2009 F150 4x4 with 11 miles

1,080 for $200 deductible.

1,240 for $100

1,365 for $50

1,695 for $0

I see no reason to pay $600 more for the zero deductible unless I figure to have a lot of problems

Don't feel bad, I paid 2K for my 7yr ESP on my 2004. Total waste of money, never had to use it once. Would never buy again.

I will be getting the 7 year/100,000 mile with mine 2009 FX4 full loaded

1995 for $0 deductible

or 1625 for $50 deductible

That is the two I am deciding b/w all depends on how many repairs you plan to make and how much out of pocket each time are you willing to give up. Nice peace of mind they will pay $30/day for 10 days on a rental car if they have to keep your truck over night. A must when this will be your sole source of transport.

The only thing the premium care doesnt cover are the normal wear and tear items, and the things likely to get damaged in an accident. I understand b/c no one really covers wear and tear items, and accident items are usually covered by insurance.

I recommend the ESP. I purchased a 6 year/ 100K with $50 deductible for $1315.00 (I also bought a Premium Maintenance Plan for $1100- 13 visits/100K). Not for everyone, but it gives me piece of mind.

I bought the middle of the line one for my 2005, it has paid for itself in a big way. Also, it may be negotiable in some states, but in mine (Florida), it is set in stone and regulated by the insurance commission of the state and cannot be negotiated. As a Florida resident, I also could not buy one from Ford directly or an out of state dealer. And third party warranty companies must be licensed by the state (must be licensed to sell insurance). So check out the info in your particular state.

Don't know who told you that....but it's not true. I too am a Florida resident and have purchased extended warranties from on-line dealers. Much cheaper shopping around. Heck, the paperwork was even sent to Florida. So it can be done.

Is this "regulation" in black and white?

So you can't be trolling the internet to buy Ford's extended warranty from an out of state dealer? The extended warranty gets linked to the vin of the owner's vehicle. I doubt the the FL insurance commission would find out.

I have always purchased the top of the line ESP warranties and have been happy with them (beware of the no-name brand warranties). If you consider how much parts and labor costs these days, it wouldn't take much to get back most or all of your money.

Its also a good selling point if you sell the vehicle before the ESP is out.

I have sold previous vehicles with a year+ left on the warranty and it made a big difference when negotiating with buyers, it makes a great selling point and helps get you top dollar for your vehicle if you sell it yourself.

Before buying check out: www.myfordwarranty.com. Print it out and take it into the dealer. Was just working thru options on my new King Ranch 09 4x4 and they wanted $2100 for the PremiumCARE plan 7yr/100k $50 deductible; the site shows it as $1365. I showed them the print out from the site and they were pissed off. Got it financed with the purchase!

Remember these plans are 100% profit for the dealer.
