Some of Motor Trend's latest test mule photos have wheels that look darn close. Rough Aluminium surface that hasn't been very polished. Odds are that's what lay underneath the plastic facade.

As for why Ford did it that way, it's far cheaper to put a chrome-plated plastic part on the face of the wheel than chrome plate the entire wheel, also less expensive than polishing aluminium.

I have 18" chrome-"clad" wheels on my Edge, which is now 6 years old and they still look great. Every GM I have had the wheels have pitted, chrome or aluminum within a few years. I'll take the chrome-clad any day. I love em.

I just picked up a set of 18" Crome clad wheels for the exact same reason. One of mine was scratched up. I have three that I am going to sell. If you're interested, send me a message.

A 'wheel warranty'? I'm figuring there must be an individual 'warranty' for everything? Air conditioning? Seat belt? Head lights? Or is there really a "wheel warranty"? Or is it some scam like the "Scotch Guard upholstery" coating they try to sell for $$$? The same stuff you buy in a can at the store?
