Question about the Sony System

Hey guys with the new sony 10 speaker system including a subwoofer. I was trying to figure out where are the 10 speakers. From pictures it looks like 4 up front (one in each door and one tweeter above) one in each of the back doors and a sub. That's only 7. What am I missing?

I believe there is a center channel in the front middle dash. That now makes 8. No clue about the other 2!

Either the front or rear door speakers (probably the rear if I had to guess) have a component-type set up where a mid-range round speaker and a tweeter is held in the same housing. Ford likes to count these as two different speakers (they did the same for the 04-08 audiophile).

So, that would make 4 in the rear doors , 2 in the front doors, 2 tweets in the a-pillars,the center channel speaker in the middle of the dash, and the sub under the seat. = 10 .

I'll confirm whether the extra two speakers are in the rear or front doors in the morning.

Btw, The system does sound pretty impressive. Very nice imaging and clarity even at high volumes. Only compaint is the that sub does not hit very hard. That's to be expected due to its size. It does provide a rich bass tone though. Very similar to the 04-08 audiophile bass sound. However, the rest of the sound spectrum is muuuuch better than the 04-08 audiophile system.

I think you may have read a misleading description. Everything I've read about the premium sound systems in the '09s lists a 7 speaker system (including subwoofer).

From http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/f...=15195&nType=2:

The available voice-activated Navigation System provides many navigational features including detailed freeway exit, turn and ramp transition lane guidance; street name announcement; and “Where am I?” current location display. 10GB of the internal 40GB hard drive can be used for storing photos, ripping CDs, and managing music with the Jukebox function. And there's the greater wealth of travel information the SIRIUS® Travel Link™ service provides,* such as real-time travel and weather conditions plus lowest fuel prices from area gas stations. The system also comes with a Sony® single-disc CD player and seven speakers including a subwoofer.

My bad, I haven't seen that callout anywhere. I was basing it off of Ford's website info this brochure, which doesn't mention a 10 speaker system, nor a 7 speaker system for that matter (actually the word "speaker" doesn't even appear in it):

Brochure, page 43.

Don't feel bad, that link you posted is VERY similiar to the actual brochure, so at first I thought I was imagining reading it. But the link is like a 90% version of the actual brochure, not sure why but they condense some of the actual pages into a single page on the link. Who knows why, but anyways page 43 of paper brochure says "The 10-speaker system delivers pure digital clarity and features a subwoofer for deep, rich bass." Where the 10 speakers are??? That I have no clue. So far I've seen one in each door (4), the subwoofer, and the 2 front tweeters = that's 7 total.

Gotcha. The extra (3) speakers must be double-secret-probation speakers

Anyone pull of the radio panel yet to see what is located behind there?

Ok, I just checked my 2009, and as I suspected in my previous post, There are two speakers in each of the rear doors behind the speaker grill. (A round midrange and a tweeter. )

So We have a confirmed 10 speakers now.

Two in each rear door = 4
One in each front door= 2
Tweeters in A-pillar = 2
Center channel speaker in center of dash top = 1
Subwoofer under right rear seat = 1

Thanks for all of the responses and solving the mystery. I wonder..does the center channel take away from the "stereo" experience or enchance it?

I think it enhances the imaging greatly.

Pop in a music DVD in the system and it's AMAZING. Listening to james taylor, dave matthews, fleetwood mac, hendrix, or the eagles in true 5.1 dolby digital while going down the highway is pretty damn cool .

So the "center channel" speaker, is that located above the nav screen in the back of the little "cubby" (where the display screen is for non-nav stereo systems)?? I've got an FX4 Screw Lux package w/ sony nav on the way. Can I expect a center speaker in that spot? Thanks!
