Questions about 3M plasitc Coating?

I have heard good things about the 3M plastic coating that can be applied to the front of the trucks to prevent stone chips ect. Has anyone had there 2009's done yet. What are your thought on this coating? Has anyone had problems with it?

APT, do you replace it every once in awhile? Like once a year or something? Or did you just do it once and then never again and it still looks good? Just curious as to the process. I've always mine to look great but not at the expense of looking bad, i.e. those black bra's Ford used to offer back in '97. I know the 3M is clear so you can't see it, but if the rocks chip at it does it need replacing now and then? Never worried about it before, but the '09's look stupid with bugshields, and the Platinum's have painted bumpers, so curious how they are holding up so far for Plat owners and how the whole 3M stuff works for bumpers; i.e. replacing it periodically, etc...

I installed it myself once and have done no maintenance specifically for it since. Here is a pic of when I was installing it on the fender only. You cannot see it from 5 feet away. The only negative is that dust can sometimes build up right along the edge of it so sometiems you can see it. Otherwise, I wash and wax it just like the paint.

we have the covering installed on our ML500. It works great and we haven't had any issues with it even in salt/snow. The entire front end of this one is covered. I have never put it on any trucks (truck is a truck to me), It does work well but I'm just as happy with my 79 dollar bug deflector. my only worry on a truck would be where the plastic meets the chrome on the bumper other then that I'd think it would work fine. I'd probably remove the trim in the front and wrap the film to the back side so that it can't peel back from the wind, sand, rocks, etc.

Another vote for that film. I had it on my '04, and hopefully can get it applied to my '09 before I take a stone hit!
