I have 3.73Ls and 5.4 in a FX4 with 20's. I'm at 7k miles now. I've never checked it by hand but reset the computer each time I fill up. When not pulling anything, the lowest I've gotten is 14.7 and best is 16.8. The 14.7 was the first tank and 15.5-16.5 is where I'm at always now. I accelerate failry hard, am not afraid to punch it to pass someone, and drive 75-80 most of the time on the highway. I'm pleased with the mileage for these conditions. When I fill up, my computer usually says around 550 miles to empty.

My rpms hit 2k somewhere between 75-80 mph with 3.73's, the 6 speed is nice!

Pulling anything drops the mileage to single digits, but I expected that, the only downside to giving up my diesel....

7k miles and not one issue with the truck - buying it is one of the best decisions I've made!

I have been averaging 16-17 MPG over the first 1,000 miles, but not hand calculated. The first time I filled up and went straight to the highway, I averaged 20 MPG while cruisin 65.

Are you sure you're not stuck in 4wd?

I've logged 1400 miles on my truck thus far. No tank has been under 15mpg in this cold weather. Best tank was 16.9 (mostly freeway) and the worst 15.5mpg. I expect after break-in and warm weather the numbers to be on par with my '04 Screw - lows 17s mixed driver in the summer and mid 18s on the highway. Winter mpg numbers are close to what my '04 was, and its not broke in yet.

I have an '04 Screw 4x4. And I can tell you that on March 10th I will have had the truck 5 years. In those {almost} 5 years, my truck has only once ever made it to 15mpg (per truck computer). I was so excited to see 15.0 on my screen that I even took a pic of it with my cell phone, so no one could say I was dreaming. It was a once in a lifetime event for my 2004!

So when my '09 arrives, it will be a blessing to see it at or above that number on a regular basis.

well a little update, with a good trip on the high way these are the latest numbers.

479.9km traveled
103.1 liters to fill
584km new distance to empty
2208 total KM on the o/d

21.4L/100KM
10.6/MPG

i didn't take it right to empty gauge did read below 1/4 tank

still pretty poor performance in my opinion. and no input from Ford yet.

I know I shouldn't be reporting any mpg info yet since my truck is brand new and still on the first tank of gas, but my info center gauge said 17 to 18mpg on the highway ride home, and then at home I hit reset by accident, and I'm at 11.7mpg now due to my short 3.5 mile commute driving back and forth to work all city driving. My 04 truck would get 11 to 11.5 mpg this time of year, and 12.5 to 13mpg in the summer, same driving conditions. I expect this truck will get 13 to 14mpg in the summer (hopefully).

Just a guess here, but there is likely a sensor of some sort that determines if you have filled the tank with E85 or Gasoline, likely based on bouyancy and likely somewhere in the fuel tank... but I am not sure where. If this is stuck so that the truck thinks is "E85" mode, the truck will think it needs to inject more fuel than it should, causing your mileage to drop.

I only suggest this because this sounds almost exactly like the mileage you would get running E85.

Let us know what you find out.

FYI- I am trading my 2008 King Ranch F150 that has been a total lemon today and picking up a new 2009 FX4! The dealer majorly helped me out in trade (29.5k!) so I am not losing much. I hope my new one does not have MPG issues.

well it got cold again and fair amount of snow, temps have been around -20/-30c so i have been in 4x4 and warming the truck a little more my economy read is at 39L/100 thats 6 MPG i can't tell you how disappointed i am in fuel economy with this truck, and so Ford as turned a blind eye to me, and i am dealer tech. my 04 was never this bad.

i tell you if GM doesn't fold and the mileage doesn't get better by spring/summer i will be trading it for a Z71.

I can't say that I blame you as that is seriously ridiculous. Something has to be wrong.

I was in 4WD all day today since it snowed 17" and my MPG dropped from 16 to 15.1. However, this data point is asterisk'd because I'm also still on my first tank of gas and only have 200 miles on my FX4.
