Rear view camera

I saw on a video that it looks like the rear view camera monitor is in the rear view mirror. that image looks awfully small !!!.. is it really ???.. I want to get this option, but don't want to have to squint to hook up a trailer.

anybody have any experience using this yet ?

Podge, if you get the Nav system, the rear view camera image will be shown on the nav screen...w/o nav, it's in the rear view mirror.
The Lariat I test drove had the nav system and it was very easy to see...sorry but I haven't seen the non-nav version yet.

i assumed it would be on the nav version, but I'm not looking to get that. I know the nav has a lot of nice bells and whistles, but i don't really need that, especially for $2600 more. I'll get a $300 garmin.

It is small, but useful. The size does not take away from it. I think it is very well done and I am happy to have the back up camera option without nav.

I think it is a matter of what you get used to. One who has nav would think it's small, me on the other hand, think it's perfect.

Does anyone know if that backup cam and rearview mirror w/screen can be added after-the-fact?

Thanks!

I am interested in knowing this as well, it's something that I now wish I got with my truck. Took a quick look yesterday at the tailgate, and there's an opening that looks like it's for wiring, but there's nothing there at the moment.

I'm sure you could add it, but I think the price for the rear view is $800 alone. I have the poor man's version in my 2009. Photos are in my album

I have the backup image in the rear-view mirror. Mine is very clear, no complaints at all with the size. I like being able to quickly glance between the image and the rear-view mirrow when backing up.

I haven't hooked up a trailer yet, but I think the guide lines on the image will make it very easy.

SandtDiego, those are some great pics of the rearview in the mirror. Almost like pics you'd see in FMC's brochure for the F150. very well taken.

They also did the rearview camera in mirror for 2008 models, so I bet you could find a lot of people in the '04-'08 forum who could tell you how they like/dislike this option. Personally I think it's a really neat idea if for some reason you don't want the NAV. Win-win. Smart thinking in '08, Ford. Almost feels like FMC is starting to come up with nifty new ideas on their own and implementing, instead of always following others in the "cool factor" department like they have for far too many years.

Can't wait to try out Sync!

CometFlash, thanks. I shot the photo's with my Canon 5D. I did not know the backup system was in the 08. The 09 brochure just shows the backup image on the nav monitor. I ordered my truck via mission federal credit union. I never got to see the truck until they delivered it. The sync is really nice. My wife would like to add it to our 05 GT mustang.

I can't wait to see what kind of cool stuff the after market guy's will come up with for the side bed mounting system hole in the truck bed.

The camera system can be added after the fact although it can be somewhat annoying since the harnesses often appear to be lacking the connections needed. It is also possible to add the 2009 camera system to a 2008. Although in that case you will be cutting into your tailgate behind the logo because the 2008s do not have the space there (their camera was located in the handle).

I hook up a boat trailer all the time with my back up camera/non-nav system. The little screen make sit very easy and once you pay attention to what you are looking at I can get it the first time everytime. You also need to pay attention to how high you have the trailer as different heights make the image look different. I have a mark on my trailer wheel/jack that tells me where to set it and now I can back up really easy onto the trailer and match it up perfect.
