Just wondering if the oil sould be changed after break in? Is break in approx 1000 km's? The ford dealer told me to bring it back at 8000 km's for the first service but every other vehicle I have owned I changed oil after break in and they all ran great. Opinions needed!

 

Both my local dealers said the same thing so gonna do as they say. I even asked to see a mechanic to double check and he said yeah just come back at 5000miles as they no longer use the run in oil that the engines used to need.

 

rule #1 follow your maintenance guide you can be more frequent but try not to over for oil change intervals.

 

There is no more break in period. Just change it at what you plan on for regular oil changes. I do mine at 3800 to 4000.

 

I'm on my 7th Ford since my 97 model. I have put well in excess of 100K on each. I always run MobilI & change it every 8000 miles with no problems on any truck. I always prime the oil filter. My wife's new Mercedes reccomended service is every 12000 or once a year w/MobilI. I really do not believe you benifit changing any more often unless you run conventional oil. The start ups after a change way exceed any wear you think your avoiding. Just my .2.

 

Ford has made the change intervals longer for the new trucks if my memory serves me correctly. I would just follow the book, can not go to wrong following the book.

 

My Ford transit had oil change interval of 31,000 miles. Be nice if the f150 were like that. 5000miles seems so short to me.

 

Correct. Mine is 7500 miles. The computer told me right on @ my first 7500.

 

Wow, that seems like a long time between changes. I don't even go that many miles on my 15 quart changes!

 

That's what Ford says for 2009 F-150. That's also where the computer is factory set for reminders.

 

Wow, interesting that Ford is pushing the miles out that far...are they using a synthetic or syn blen in the '09's? My BMW's call for every 15K miles and I still change the oil/filter myself at the 7500 mile mark...just can't fathom leaving any oil in an engine for 15K miles...it does get dirty and wear out!

 

Ford's been using a syn-blend for several years.

I change mine every 3000 miles. Never had any engine problems. It's everything else that fails around it.
