Anybody install a bug deflector on a '09?

I ordered an AVS bug deflector for my '09. The directions say to screw in 2 screws in the holes in the hood. There are not holes in the hood where the screws would be located. Anyone put a bug deflector on their '09 yet? Not sure I want to start drilling holes in the hood!

Im not sure the bug deflector is really needed. The aerodynamics of the front of the truck seem to sent a lot of rain and muck up and over the truck so i guess it will do the same with the bugs.

Deflectors do a lot more than protect against bugs. They also keep stones from damaging the front edge of the hood. Something I have had happen to me more than once. Especially with an aluminum hood.

I have not seen an 09 with a bug shield on it. If you happen to put your's on, if you can post a pic. I am not sure if I want to put one on mine, since I have not see one yet. I have had them on all of my other F150's, but with all the chrome on this one, I think it may be a bit much.

They really detract from the looks to me. If they match the color of the truck, not quite so bad, but still, just interrupts the flow of the lines. That is the price you pay for some protection, I guess. However, on my daughter's Suburban, the bug deflector has rubbed the paint off the front of the hood.

I have rock chips instead.

I have never liked the way them things look. It does spoil the lines of the truck. Also i still think them things are useless. On our Mazda 6 our lower bumper and grill are covered in little stone chips but where the bug deflector would be has only a couple of tiny chips compared to maybe 100-150 on the lower bumper. The bumper and lower lip on the f150 would be more prone to damage than where the bug deflector goes.

That looks bad. I'd say try that 3M protective film instead if you're worried about paint protection.

Yea, the 3rd party ones don't look too good IMO.

I have an OEM Ford low profile one on my black '05 and love it.

It they could match the styling and low profile of the previous body style, I'd be all over it. Does anyone know if Ford has this accessory for the '09s yet?

Yes Ford has a low profile for the 09's. However, I don't think it is going to look much different than the aftermarket one. The design of the hood looks like it makes mounting one somewhat difficult.

that first one looks horrible

the chrome one that was posted looks like it follows the grill shell perfectly, which would do absolutely nothing, and looks bad

Thumbs down

Yeh, they both look, well not good. I'd stick with side window deflectors and splash guards.

Wonder if there is still an issue with the splash guards? In 2004 when you ordered the Ford hard plastic splash guards for all 4 wheels, and also had the black platform running boards, there was an issue with fitting the ones on behind the 2 front tires.

My dealer did it no problem (tight fit but they never called even once to say they wouldn't fit), but I recall a lot of others on here having issues with their dealers saying they wouldn't fit.

The first picture posted looks horrible. Take it off.

However the chrome one doesnt look bad in my opinion. Kinda goes with it, then I again I may be a little biased. I have a chrome bug shield on my 2005 and I like it, didn't care for it much at first but now I feel like it marks my trucks front end as mine.
Old picture and ain't a great one but yeah.
