prices/trade ins

Does anyone know around what sticker price the new f150's will hit the lots with? With the economy being down and trucks not being the best sellers right now, I am wondering how Ford could slap a $35000 window sticker on and expect it to sell. I have a 2004 f150, I wonder what kind of trade in value a dealer would give if I were to go buy a 2009? To my understanding, these places are not giving much of anything for truck trade ins right now, if anything.

Well the price of the 08's have dropped a large amount so dont expect them to give you hardly anything. I think the 09's start out at about 30k but i really have no idea. I paid 44k invoice for mine and msrp was 50k so they are pretty expensive but still cheaper than the other brands and a better truck.

I just tried to trade in my '05 FX4 with 66K miles and they only wanted to give me $12,500!!! Yet they had used ones on the lot they were selling for 18-19K! I told them they weren't making 6 grand off of me and I left! I hate dealers!
It's hard to pass up the deals you can get on the new ones, even if they rape you on a trade! Not sure if I want an 08 or 09 though....

yeah i was just thinking about all that....mine only has about 39k miles on it, 2004, great shape, not any of the ordinary 2004 problems cause it was built in september 04. i hate dealers too, they are liars and always looking to absolutely make the most you will allow them to make off of you. it is like fighting lennox lewis or something while sitting there trying to make a deal and make sure at the same time they are not purposely charging you for something unnecessary. i think there should be some sort of laws and regulations on that bs.

Of course they do! Isn't that the definition of capitalism? They aren't in business to LOSE money, and they have a lot higher overhead than a small mom and pop used car lot.

I think 12.5 is a generous tradein offer. The ones on the lot marked at 18+ aren't going to sell at that price, odds are they are going to sit there and rot and eventually be wholesaled out for 12.5 if they are lucky. The only reason they aren't already wholesaled out is they are giving them a reasonable chance to sell to fools who don't realize the true value of gas hog trucks right now.

You realize what the tradein value is on my truck? Less than 2 grand.

Got tired of waiting

Tried to trade my 04 FX4 SCAB on similar 08's while the selection was still varied, not just the STX's. Then thought about waiting on the 09's which kept getting pushed back for intro. Finally said to hell with it since my 04 already has the mods I wanted, had less than 50k miles, and had no problems. Definitly was turned off by the thought of losing close to 70% of sticker value in 4 yrs. Just couldn't see giving up my truck and at least 25k extra for another truck.
Last week I picked up a well equiped 09 Mazda 3 for 18K since I was able to use the Ford X-plan through my employer. With gas at $4 I can make my payment with what I save going from 14 mpg to 30 mpg.
The part about trying to trade for a new truck that aggravated me most was the dealers constantly telling me what the trucks where going for at auction. I felt trading from a truck to a truck would help with trade instead of trading down like most people are doing.

Doesn't work that way - they still have to maintain a certain profit margin to remain in business.

dealers constantly telling me what the trucks where going for at auction
Case in point. They can't count on being able to sell a used truck off the lot now, they may have to take whatever the auction will give them. What they give you for your tradein is money off their books till they can resell it. A lot of dealerships are inventory rich and cash poor right now - if they can't pay their employees they have to close the doors.

i'll run my truck til the wheels fall off before i give it up at 39k miles and dang near perfect condition w/ some nice mods for $12000

i have not been to a dealer to find out what i could get out of the truck. only reason i considered it to begin w/ was because of the issues people have w/ these trucks. fortunately mine have not been too bad...yet.

trade in value is 12,800, private party is 15,500, and suggested retail is 18,000. no way i'd trade it at 12,800- only if it had about 70k miles on it.

i wanted to go for the hell of it to see what my truck would get as a trade in... after some thought, though, i talked myself out of it since i know i probably still owe more than it's even worth anymore, lol.

You may not even get 12 - what you call "nice mods" dealers call "we gotta take them off before we can sell this thing". NEVER try to trade in a modded truck - you gotta sell it privately.

u never get your money back out of mods. that's just how it goes. they don't improve the value of any vehicle.
