Is '09 1997 again?

Hey remember the guys who bought 97 F-150s from Jan 96 - Sept 96 when all you could get is then all new for the F150, 4.6L.... Then the 5.4 arrived and I felt sorry for all those guys. Lookes like the 09 models will be like that, they'll be availablr for 6-9 months with the 5.4L which will have 3xxh and 3xx tq (copyright some other funny post) and then in 2010 the twin force, I mean ecoboost, the diesel and perhaps a 6.2L or some other NEW V8 will arrive. And we'll see the guys in the 09's and feel sorry for them.
Another example the 02(?) all new ram pre Hemi.
Just a thought.

This happens with anything you buy be it a pc, mp3 player, mountain bike,tv it's just something you have to accept. I know for a fact that for what the 5.4l offers in power and options that it is gonna be way more than i need to pull my 4000lb trailer anyday of the week and full economy on it, is better than the SUV i am using at the moment. I don't care if it can do the qtr mile faster than that other truck and I'm not worried that it wont be the fastest to60 but i am worried about how well it works as a truck for what it was designed for. If i wanted something fast i would buy a Mitsubishi evo, Subaru wrx sti or something that could handle corners and be able to slow down at the speeds it was designed for. If you waited for the new thing every time you bought something you would never buy it. I bought a high end surround sound amp when it first came out and then 3 months down the line they were publishing the specs on the new one which was a better amp for the same money. If i waited till that came out then bought that one i would never have got my home theater sorted out.

So the only comeback to having a superior engine is that your not intending to buy a sports car...

Things like this don't mean so much to some people.

Fair enough. And in fairness for the first "model" year (albiet a short one) the 09 will be better in every way from the 04-08 including the possible slightly upgraded 5.4L. With the exception of those ugly taillights....

Personally, I think that Ford is over advertising what's on the horizon for 2010-2011. How about they get the '09's out for sale before they start telling people what's coming after. I won't feel sorry for anybody that buys an '09 F150, partly because they'll buy it knowing what's on the horizon but mostly because it's just the way things go. I bought my '04 because among other things it had best in class towing at 9900 lbs. Then in '05 Ford upped it to 10,100 lbs, now the '08 models are at I believe 10,900 lbs max towing.

Everything you buy today, will be built better tomorrow.

I'd agree with everyone here. Everyone has their own reason(s) for buying what they do and when they do so.

I agree it seems crazy to buy an '09 when the '10's will have much better mpg.

I also agree it's crazy to wait because the '09's will have a newer body refresh than the '04-'08's and anyone who cares about trucks will be envious of those who are the first to own them.

The again it may all fall to financials. Those who care about mpg, those who have enough $ not to care, and those who may have enough $ but with the current economic situation don't want to risk dropping money on a new truck now and then having something happen where they can't afford their bills anymore (job loss, market loss, etc.).

Some people may just NEED a new truck at this time, some may convince themselves they NEED one but they actually just WANT one and could get themselves in financial distress. Too much of that right now in this country as it is. I find it hard to believe anyone who owns an '04+ truly NEEDS to replace theirs already, it's only been about 5 years. I think Ford trucks are built a lot better than to only last 5 years, my '97 lasted 7 years and is probably still driving around somewhere.

I guess personally I'm just confused as to why I really don't think I will buy one. I have ALWAYS bought the new remodel of the F-150 every single time they remodeled it. ALWAYS one of the very first on the roads. But this one, this refresh, I just can't seem to accept it as a true remodel. A big refresh, sure. But the looks are almost identical to the current model, and it just feels as if it'll only be a few more years at best before they do a top-to-bottom remodel, brand-new. Poor economy + refresh + fuel prices = wait for an All-New F-150.

I guess why I talk about it so often is because I love my Ford trucks and I have plenty of money to buy an '09 outright, but I just can't see the '09 as new, just significantly refreshed to hold out for another 3 years or so, test new engines, etc. They changed a lot, but...

As an aside, the dealers around me have few to no orders for '09's from individual customers such as myself. It wasn't like that when I ordered my '04, heck even back when I ordered my '97. Just seems like the market for trucks has dried up currently. Look at the values of our '04's! How can such a great versatile vehicle be worth the same or less than a lot of little used cars nowadays?

30k, 40k, 50k?!? Those are large sums of money to be dropping at any time. Make sure you NEED one, or like me can buy one outright so it won't come back to bite you. Not that I think I will, prob just wait for the next actual remodel. When the market is down is the best time to invest for your future. Heck, invest in Ford if you want to, it's damn cheap. Make your money work for you, don't make yourself work just to buy a new truck you want and don't actually need.

Very few people on the roads actually cares what you are driving, even though you imagine they are drooling over your shiny new truck. Most are probably just aggravated driving to work, or aggravated in traffic trying to get home from work. Little if any time will be wasted thinking about other vehicles or thinking wow that guy must be doing really well. In fact, I bet most people are drooling over Prius' more than anything else these days. MPG is key.

LOL, that's a lot, guess I'm bored; or energized. Mt. Dew's for everyone!

I used to buy a new vehicle every couple of years. I was going to buy an 09 but now I'm going to wait. My 04 only has 32k miles on it and I've kept it in mint condition. Since all of the used truck values dropped recently, I'll just keep driving mine. Although I was skeptical at first, I am now tempted to wait for the Ecoboost V6 to come out to see what it does mainly as MPG's go.

Just bought new tires for my '04 today, which seals my mind now. Driving out the lot reminded me, no one really cares what you're driving, so why waste the cash unless you have tons lying around, enough for your future as well as today.

I'll wait for when they do a full remodel again, just like I did in '97 and '04.

Can't wait to read what people love and/or hate about the refresh when they start buying them though! Sounds like almost a clean sweep for hating the taillights already. My two cents on that is - why are they still lamps? I was looking forward to LED tails in 2004, it's now 2009 and STILL no LED's. What gives Ford?

Just being the typical cheap asses, no one cares because, off the line the LED's cost more, and everyone ignores the fact that they last and hold up way longer then a halogen, plus, im not sure many people really care, due to just not caring, or not knowing.

While im not a big fan of the chrome around the taillights, they do look very bright when applied. Saw an fx4 two weeks ago... I would love one, not going to happen, unless I win the lotto, lol.
