Breaking News: 340+ hp

The 2010 F-150 with the EcoBoost engine will reportedly produce 340+ hp. Will cost about $700 and deliver 20%+ better fuel economy.

Question is will they offer it in all the truck models or just the lower end models like XL or STX?

If I understood the article they will replace the current engine lineup, which will carry them from XL to Platinum. The V6 engines will be twin turbo models.

The V6 with EcoBoost is slated for the Ford F-150 in 2010, and the pickup application will produce "significantly more" than 340 hp and 340 lb-ft-torque, said Brett Hinds, Ford's advanced engine design manager. That tops the 300-hp rating of the largest engine -- a 5.4- liter V8 -- in the current F-150.
Here's some more info from a different article. By significantly more, I'm guessing 360 hp. What do you all think?

I also agree with T-Bird. It definitely sounds like they want to have this in all models. So no problem there.

I should hope its more than 340HP. The MPG numbers are good and all but an engine that makes less power than every other truck already out on the market (Except I think the Titan is still at 317).

Not that you want to buy a new truck then throw money into it, but I bet the upgrade potential of a twin turbo motor will be amazing.

Im sure it would be as well. Love turbo cars but my mates wrx sti had a few mods done and some tune ups and he halfed his mpg for about 20% power increase.

The fun factor of a twin turbo V6 will be nothing short of awesome. I would take a turbo v6 with 340 HP over a NA 340 HP V8 because I would enjoy the boost....and realize I won't be blowing or turbo'ing my V8 anyway hah

You just KNOW that companies like Flowmaster and Magnaflow are chomping at the bit to get one of these engines on their dyno so they can start tuning an exhaust for it. Banks is probably already designing more efficient turbos.

I wouldnt choose it as a option if i had the chance. My bro works for VW as a Mec in UK and he says turbos blowing are commen problems on new cars let alone for hard use on trucks which work the turbos even harder. Be nice if it did work well but perhaps i will wait 4 years before i jump into a new engine design. Great for modders though.

It won't be an option, this is how Ford will make power and improve MPG. There's nothing wrong with turbos, what kills them are people that don't allow them to cool down after a hard drive on the highway. All it takes is allowing the engine to idle for a few minutes to allow the oil to circulate through and cool the bearings. Changing the oil at the recommended intervals helps too.
