The guy who originally posted that info, has since backtracked (this week) and now indicates any 6.2L info was speculation...

This is what Motortrend's saying:

An all-new 4.6-liter three-valve engine, based on the Mustang small-block, will be the new F-150's volume-selling powerplant. This engine makes 290 horses at 4750 rpm and 317 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm and drives through the new six-speed automatic.

Top-range engine (at least until the hush-hush 6.2-liter "Hurricane" V-8 makes its debut with the new-generation Harley-Davidson edition) is the familiar 5.4-liter Triton V-8. Power is up 10 horses to 310 at 5500 rpm, and torque has been boosted to 365 pound-feet at 3750.

Motortrend is full-of-****. The 5.4 is already making 365 lb/ft for one thing, and I guarantee you that Ford hasn't filled Motortrend in on bupkiss. They are speculating, pure and simple. No way Ford offers the 5.4 at less than 20hp over the 4.6. That would be redundant.

I see no reason for them to release the power numbers, yet. If they are up significantly it will hurt sales of the '08 and give the competition more time to 1 up their numbers in the HP game. Also, releasing the '09 HP numbers at this point is not going to drive up sales.

I would be very surprised if they have any major changes to power plants for '09 and would look towards '10 for major changes.

X2

... if Ford comes out now and says the 2009 will have 350 HP, that will just give GM/Dodge a chance to re-tune their engines to be slightly more.

(Hypothetical number... I have no idea what GM/Dodge engines produce now... )

Plus, its not far-fetched to say that Ford may still be running long-term endurance testing on the MY09 trucks with several different tunes to decide which one they will go with. We do some testing like that at our proving grounds (not Ford trucks though) where we have people running the vehicles 24-7 to get rough hours on them to simulate years of use. These test still take a long time to run, and then they'll have to go through all the data and most likely tear down the engines to inspect the parts for wear.

I don't think they'll bump up the 5.4 3V horsepower no more than 25 hp. They'll get the performance improvement out of the 6 speed transmission. If you look at the second best selling truck, Chevrolet Silverado, they have 5.3s for the most part (maybe 1% of them have the 6.0). The 5.3 power was increased from like 295 hp to 315 hp and their sales skyrocketed with just a redesign. It's not HP that sells trucks. Look at the 381 hp truck. It only sold 195k trucks. Those 315 hp Chevys and 300 hp Fords sold around 650k and 700k trucks, respectively. I think they'll stay put with a small increase.
