The Death of the Chrome Bumper - 2009 F150
Chrome is SO easy to keep looking great. I can't imagine taking a chrome bumper and PAINTING it??? Who in their right mind would want that? It would look horrid within a year or so, all chipped and junk. Chrome shines up nice n easy, always looks good if you take just a teenie bit of care to it. I always use the chrome polish on mine when I wash n wax, takes only 30 minutes max for the front and rear bumpers and Lariat badges and looks great!
Even my 1998 F-150 chrome held up for 6 years or so before the rust started seeping through from the back. That old style 150 seemed to get a lot of behind rust that would eventually come through no matter how well you took care of it. I have yet to see the same issue with this 2004 body style, guess only time will tell. Anyone having rust coming thru from behind on a 2004+ 150? I may not be able to afford a 2009 now, so hopefully it won't be an issue.

On a truck that gets regular use (like mine does
) you can't beat a set of heavy chrome bumpers for taking the abuse.

it aint a truck if you cant get chrome on it!
Chrome bumpers are the # 1 reason that I bought an XLT instead of a FX4.
I drive too many miles on gravel roads and off-road, and I can just imagine what a painted bumper would look like after the hunting season.

Both plastic bumpers on my 1990 Laser were cracked, the painted rear on my 1985 needs a coat of paint every once in awhile to keep it looking decent (going to make a new one this fall) The chrome bumpers on both ends of my F-150 and the front of my Ranger still look great. I swapped my black plastic grille on my Ranger for a chrome one as well, I think chrome in moderation looks very well IMO. The fake chrome on the newer Ford car grilles does look out of place, as does the overkill grilles on trucks IMO.
I like the chrome on my Lariat. It cleans up well and the bugs wash off easier. My wife's Murano has the painted bumper and it's a booger cleaning the painted front. I don't think my truck has too much chrome and it's not only for Motorcycles....Check out Semi Trucks with bumpers, stacks, fuel tanks.....I'll keep my chrome bumpers, you can have the painted ones.
if you want both types of bumpers, get a Tundra...lol. I noticed on the Tundra limited model has a painted front bumper but the rear bumper is chrome. And they offer the TRD Off Road package on 4x2 models. What are they thinking???
