Oil
Oil
Bought F150 S'Crew with 203,000 miles and took it right to my m'anhic to do oil change etc. Did not question what oil he used at the time. Now 5,000 miles later and noticed 2 qts. down, I went and put two qts. in until tomorrow when the appointment is made to do the oil change and tire rotate. On the oil cap factory recommends 5-20W which is what I put in. Are there any opinions out there on this issue of oil? The factory claims it is good enough and and contributes to better gas mileage because of it's viscosity.

If it's a 3V, use 5w-20 as specified - look elsewhere for yer oil loss issues - don;t blame the oil viscosity ( e.g rings, valve seals, faulty PCV, etc).
If it's an older non-3V truck, you can try using 5w-30 with no ill effects.
Motorcraft oil & filter recommended - great stuff and very reasonably priced ( @ WallyMart )
Oil Response
Mechanic said due to the 208,000 miles, he is going to put in 5W-30 because of oil exhaustion over a 5,000 miles since the last change. He recommends not waiting 5000 miles to do oil changes.
Y'all in the right forum? You have a 2009+ with 203K?

Why? I am closing in towards 275,000 miles on my V6. I use Motorcraft 5W-20 and a Motorcraft FL-400S filter. I change at 5,000 miles and only burn half a quart every oil change.
Two quarts down in 5000 miles is not that bad. Instead of increasing your oil change intervals why don't you just check your oil level every two or three weeks like your supposed to and top up as needed.
You can change your pcv too (with a motorcraft one) to see if that helps.

I dont use any oil in the engine I have now. I go 6 months and change it.. Last oil change I went almost 3,000 miles and it was still full up. I havent changed my Mustangs oil since last year. I havent gone 3000 miles and it got amsoil so unless it starts looking grungy I aint changing it till next year..
My son in law's 98 4.6 with 170K burns 5W20, so we switched to 5W30. Either way, Motorcraft semi-synthetic and Motorcraft filter recommended, they are both cheap at Walmart.
Change every 5k or 6 months, whichever occurs first.
