5.0L or 3.5 Eco-boost ?

Hey guys, just wanted to get some feedback on what you're reasons were for choosing the 5.0L over the 3.5 Eco-boost. My buddy just picked up a 2011 F-150 4x4 XLT/w XTR pkg. He chose the 5.0L motor and he says he couldn't be happier. Plenty of power, nice V8 rumble and way better fuel economy than his old 4.6V8 Super Crew XLT4X4. I'm lookin at a new FX4 SuperCrew w/luxury pkg. I know that with the FX4 you cannot opt for any rear axle ratio other than 3.73. I was just wondering if this would really kill the fuel economy if I chose to go with the 5.0L instead of the Eco-boost. I don't really tow anything anymore as all the toys are gone(sled, boat, and cottage). I would love a Harley model or Limited but too rich for my blood. The Lariat is a beautiful truck as well, but that wood grain on the dash and door panels....oh well. Anyways, please guys any opinions or advice on your experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone...and to the members that have posted pics of their rigs....awesome lookin trucks !

Get the Ecoboost so that you and your buddy will eventually get into pissing contests over "which is bigger" leading up to "fist to cuffs" because you simply can't just "get along" anymore thereby becoming sworn enemies for life.

At least, that seems to be the end result from all the other "5.0 vs Ecoboost" debates going on around F150 forums...

With that said, test drive 'em both, pick the one that blows your skirt up, buy it.

But please, oh purty please, don't come back and tells us how "this new [insert motor chosen] blows away that [insert motor not chosen]" cuz they be fightin words 'round here!

Unless you likes dem kinda fights!

I test drove them both extensively and chose the 5.0. Both engines were strong, but the sound of the 5.0 is intoxicating. I am not one of the "eco blasters", but the 5.0 just works better for me. Best thing to do is drive them both, and see which one works for you.

They both seem to get decent mpg's but if yours is always unloaded, I say eco because it gets good mpg when unloaded, and you and your friend have somthing to fight about lol

No offense to my fellow F150 fans, but why would anybody take the 5.0 over the Ecoboost? The Ecoboost has more power, more speed, and better mileage. I don't need a louder sound/rumble. Get the Eco ..... seriously.

Only thing the 5.0 is better at is making noise!
Seriously tho drive em both and go with what u like the best.
The day I bought I took four F150s out...2 Ecos and 2 5.0s....3.73 gears and 3.55s.
Did the same loop with all trying to drive the same with all.
Chose the Ecoboost because it lugged and did not shift on some hills the 5.0 did and when I stomped on it it took off...quietly!
I've come to really appreciate the diesel like power and quietness of the Ecoboost....

Not looking for a fight. But my test drives proved the 5.0 to be the better engine. I think the eco had a little more torque down low at half throttle, but once you punch it, I like the power and sound of the 5.0. So far on this and other forums, the mpg's are equal. To each his own, I'll take the 5.0; and glad I did.

Yes, but I do not, and will not question why someone would buy the 3.5. I think it is a great engine.

After looking at all the new engines and test driving them all, if some rich guy offered the buy me a new truck tomorrow, I would go with the 5.0. It sounds throaty, and I'm just old-school on the "V8 is better than V6" argument...though I understand the need for other engines for the line. So the 5.0 for me.

After all, if you own 360 horses, who has the space for five more?

I test drove both the eco and 5.0, with 3.55s, and I liked the eco, but loved the 5.0. Both were very strong, and I'm not sure how the eco pulls a mid wight load(4k to 5k lbs), but my 5.0 does it very well. I am very happy with my 5.0, and I'm sure I will be for quite some time. But overall it is what you like the most. So test drive both and decide. I went with the 5.0 and am very happy, but I probably would have been with the eco as well!
