Climate Control Gremlin
Climate Control Gremlin
My stupid 08 Screw King Ranch is possessed.
The climate control would blow hot air and then cold air and back to hot air with no happy medium. There is also a whirring/ticking noise continually coming from the dash that appears to be a blend door continually moving. I took it in today to get fixed and it makes the noise all the way to the dealer. I leave it running and get a service guy to look at it. Surprise Surprise. As soon as he sticks his head in my truck the noise stops. They check it over and find that the exterior temp sensor isn't reading right and replace it. All fixed. NOT. I start to drive home and that noise in the dash is back again, I turn around and bring it back, I get the service guy, he comes to the truck and . ..nothing, no noise. I get in to leave and it starts again, so I stop, start to get out and the noise stops again. I start to drive away and again it starts. This time one of the service guys actually heard it and confirmed it was a blend door moving continually. They said they can't do anything with it until it does it all the time so they can diagnose it. **** me off, the stupid thing does it non stop the entire time I have it, and then as soon as I pull on their lot it stops. I'll try and get it to do it for them again tomorrow. What a freaking headache and waste of my time.
Other than driving into the biggest electrical pole I can find does anyone have a suggestion?

Saintless - I will let you know. It was doing it like crazy the next day, so I drove to Ford and once I got within 5 minutes of the dealership it quit. I can't pin down how to get it to do it, it seems to decide to do it randomly, and once it starts it won't quit until I get near the dealership. My other problem is that I work out of town all the time, so it isn't often that I have time to deal with this issue. If you get yours fixed keep me updated.
I had the same problem several months ago. Service tech heard the noise and said that it was normal. I know that was not the case so I did some digging and found a thread discussing the problem ( http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/65...-the-dash.html ). From the thread, I learned the problem is a malfunctioning blend door actuator. Told the dealer what I learned and even gave them the Part # and insisted they replace it. They did so and the noise immediately stopped and has not come back since.
Agreed... take it to another dealer. My 2005 had a gremlin (turned out to be one of the sticky injectors) that would disappear when I got to the dealership. Even though I was out of warranty the dealership gave me a loaner and kept my truck for several days until they could replicate the problem.

Bassaway - thanks for the link, I will read through it and tell them when I take it in on Monday.

I have the same exact problem on my 07 lariat.....it seems to happen more when the weather is humid but who knows. I plan to take it in when it gets worse.
Couple of questions though:
who has a supercab? if you do, do you get a thump in your drivers side door when you hit a big bump? is there a fix?
also for those of you who had emblems come off was the new emblem just a simple remove old adhesive and "press on" the new one to replace?
thanks

As of right now, NOPE
It has done it non stop for the past week, it did it all last night, it did it all the way to the dealer. The service advisor heard it. I gave them the print out from that site I was referred to above. They had it all day and they couldn't get it to do it again. They can't fix it without the tech seeing/hearing the problem first. They want to keep it tomorrow as well and try it first thing in the morning. I told them they can have it until noon because I have to leave for work 7 hours out of town then. Hopefully they can freaking fix it because driving for long distance hauls with that CC malfunctioning makes me want to crash my freaking truck. If it isn't fixed when I pick it up tomorrow I am going to have a little meeting with the service manager.

Update
The service manager, the services advisor and the tech all drove around in it this morning and it wouldn't do it. I picked it up at noon and voila! The noise starts 10 minutes after I leave the lot. I drove it back and got the service manager who heard it. He swears that it didn't make that noise this morning.
After some discussion, him playing with all the climate control buttons and going over some of the posts from the site I was referred to above he said he would see what he could do. He called me back 15 minutes later to say that the part has been ordered and to call them for an appointment when I am back in town. I'll update again once they install the part.
I'm hoping for the best
edited to add, I asked for the price of this part $54.94 and installation is $325-$390 because at this point I was ready to pay for it myself to keep me from wrapping my truck around a pole. Just in case anybody out of warranty is dealing with this.

Fixed?
They replaced the part today:
Replaced Heater Door Control Motor
Motor Assembly A/C Door Actuator
(outside/recirculation) - Replace
5F2Z*19E616*AA Motor ASY
This is a different part number than what was listed in the above linked website, but when I google it, it comes up as the new number for the same part
Part Number: 5F2Z19E616AA
Alternate:
Make: Ford
Description: MOTOR ASY
Old Number: 4F2Z19E616FA
New Number:
ADP: 5F2Z*19E616*AA
Rey-Rey: 5F2Z-19E616-AA
The Verdict: It didn't blow hot air on me once on the drive home, temperature coming out of the vents remained steady, unlike before where it would switch every few minutes from hot to cold and back to hot again. The noise was there when I started it and then it quit, then half way through my drive it did it again for about a minute and quit. Before it wouldn't quit once it started, so it might be working correctly. I'll have to wait for a longer trip next week to see how it does, but for now the temperature issues seems to be fixed, which is what I wanted.

my 06 fx4 does the same thing makes a grinding type noise but i have not had the heat and air problem it does it when the unit is off also and the dealer had the dash out two times to replace actuator motors and it still does it. now off warranty i found with mine if i run the temp down below 68 with the heat and air off it does not make the noise i would like find a fix for it. i would trade it in if the trade in value was not so low right now
Another quick update - the fix worked great for four days, now the hot/cold air is back and the noise in the dash doesn't stop. I am out of town so I stopped in at a local Ford dealer here and they told me they are very familiar with this issue. They said they have replaced a pile of blend door actuators and a bunch have come back after the fix and needed another blend door actuator. They stated that Ford is well aware of this problem and is currently working on a new part that is supposed to be out sometime this month. Just an FYI for those that want to know. . .In the mean time I am wishing I had bought a truck with regular climate controls.
