04 Crank no Start

Hello

Recently bought this 04 FX4 5.4 3v with the typical bad phasers & trans issues.

Successfully completed the phasers including a lock out kit( DON'T DO IT, power & mileage suffer in my opinion), including dropping of the oil pan to clear the pick up screen which was packed. Tried 3 times to solve trans issues while installed, but a shop ended up with that one.

Drove the truck for aboul a month, got tired of lack of power, wouldn't spin rears in loose gravel.

Desided to remove lock outs after replacing coils & injectors, VVT solenoids, & CMPs.

After pulling lockouts & reassembly, i got a P0353 code, then the truck died. Accidentally left #3 coil unplugged, no big deal....just plug it in & restart, well, no start. Checked all plug-ins, relays & fuses...nothing. It will spit & sputter a little with starting fluid, so must have spark. I don't get it, it ran about 30sec after reassembly & before disassembly (just no guts), has new PCM due to previous owner misaligned plug with PCM & pushed in 3 pins. Cams look good.

I did remove negitive cable for about 5-8min, tried to start, just cranks, no codes.

Need my truck back

Thanks, Paul

Check the FPDM for corrosion.

All good, very minimal. Jumped connector, still no fire. Going for fuel pump in morning.

Did you check the FPDM or the inertia switch?

Definitely sounds like a fuel problem. If your OBD tool reads fuel pressure that would be helpful.

Ok, think I have it sorted.
I replaced fuel pump(fun times). Still no start, but pump now working, i had a leak at the fuel filter, sprayed when releasing the connector.
No power at injectors. Rechecked inertia switch, every fuse & relay.....again, all good.
Found the PCM pinouts for injectors, all good. I thought about reintroduce 12v to the injectors in desperation. Plugged Engine harness back into PCM, & checked one last time for voltage.......there it was!
So, I'm thinking bad wire at this point. Still getting a P0340, but running with more power & smoother. Tomorrow, I'm replacing the wires for the bank 1 CMP.
New CMPs, VVTs, but will test crankshaft position sensor as a possibility.

But for now, it's running strong & smooth.

Thanks all, Paul
