2004 f150 5.4L Stalls at low rpms. HELP!!

Hey everyone,

bought my 2004 f150 about 2 weeks ago and noticed it was occasionally stall when idling in gear or at low rpm’s like slow turns.

It doesn’t do it all the time but regardless I need this fixed as I was hoping to make this my new daily.

attempted fixes
- cleaned Throttle body
- cleaned MAF
- replaced VCT Solenoids

I also haven’t properly reset the PCM after doing these as apparently leaving the battery unplugged for 5 minutes doesn’t do it on these vehicles.

any suggestions on what I should do? I truly am at a loss here. Will resetting the PCM help or eliminate the issue?

could it be oil pressure related? I’m currently running 5w-20 but I hear switching to 5w-30 may be the way to go.

when i first bought my truck (2004 fx4 5.4) i installed a solenoid and phaser. it took me a few weeks and i had the battery out of the vehicle the whole time. after i got it all back together it was doing the same thing you're talking about.

it did it for about a week of driving, but after a while it fixed itself (relearned? not sure)

what i probably should have done is what fordtechmakuloko recommends doing in this video. but, t fixed itself and stopped stalling after a while.

Need OBD codes. If you don't have a scanner you can take it to a auto parts store and they'll scan it for you and tell you any codes that exist.

There won't be any codes if the CEL hasn't come on since you disconnected the battery.

Didn't remember that.

.I'd drive it until the problem recurs a few times, then check the codes. It may not set a code the first couple of times.

You might need to recalibrate the TBody.

Did you ever figure your problem out? Others may benefit from it.
