Fuel Gauge not working

A couple months ago I decided to replace almost every fuel part on my 04 F150 (for other unspecified reasons). Unfortunately, the fuel gauge now always says empty. Now when I say I replaced every part that includes the pump, filter, fpdm and rail sensor. Normally I fill up every Sunday but due to other circumstances, I didn't recently and actually ran out of gas for the first time in my life. Now I'm wondering how I get the gauge to work again because I really don't want to drop the tank again to deal with the sending unit of a new fuel pump.

Have you tried doing the following:

1. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes.
2. Getting a rubber mallet and tapping on the fuel tank or doing a little offroading. Might be a stuck float.
