07 fx4 4r75e neutrals out above 2nd

After driving on Highway between 55 & 70 mph for about a hour I ran into traffic that was stop & go. After getting back up to around 60 mph the trans acted like it was in neutral and I headed to the shoulder. Fluid and filter were changed 5000 miles ago, was still clear and full. It may not be related but during one of the stops while in traffic I had heard a pop and felt a slight shudder like someone had bumped my truck but no one seemed close enough. I was able to drive the next half hour home in second or in drive with overdrive off. Does anyone have any thoughts on what has happened or what to check first? My background includes 5 yrs as a Blue Oval Certified Service Manger way back around 2000.

Neutrals out above 2nd

The post you recommended is very similar. In drive with O/D off I have no engine braking but in 2nd gear there is engine breaking. Does that change the cause of my failure or just mean that the broken piece of snap ring is stuck in a different valve?

From post #28 in that thread:

If you have 2nd gear engine breaking then you may have another problem because that would indicate the OD band at least works partially. The OD band is used during second gear so if you have lost OD then it may be another issue.
It may be worth your time to read the whole thread, it has 274 posts.

Thank you glc for your quick assistance. I was 3000 miles from home and decided to replace transmission with a Reman without tearing it down.
