Lighting issue driveing me crazy

Hello again guys I finally have internet again
I have a minor issue that is becoming a major problem, my wife has a 2008 F150 XLT and every now and then when shes driving it the inside dome lights will randomly just come on, without the switch being touched at all, well just now we were outside and I was pooing a coyote in the back yard and we saw a light, so around the house I go rifle in hand, the cargo light is on, the inside lights are on and the keys are hanging up and the truck is locked, along with all the issues it already has now this, do any of you guys have any idea what the heck is going on? Or do I need to go to the church and request an exorcism? she really wants to keep the truck, and I have checked the alt( 14.6) and all grounds seem to be intact, the only thing out of place is just above the radio in the two lights the right one is burnt out, or the switch needs replaced one of the two, I need help with this one,

My daughter's Taurus had exactly this problem and it turned to to be the switch for the interior lights on the door latch inside her drivers door.

That's the same thing the guys at my sons work said, only they said it was the back door, which is only half a door and costs twice as much of course, but would that switch make it come on three house AFTER the truck was shut off too?

Yes, If the switch is flakey it acts like the door was opened. It drained my daughter's battery down sitting in the garage for a couple of days.

Ok don't know if this applies to 2008 or not. But something else you might want to check. On the drivers side floor under the door moulding. Is ALOT of wiring. My 2004 truck had this problem. There is a group of wires maybe 6 inches off the pillar towards the back. They are wrapped in Black electrical tape. When i took the tape off several of the wires had come unspliced. The tape was holding them together intermittently which was why the light was going on and off. I respliced the wires and soldered them and that fixed the problem. Might be something to look into if the door switch isn't it. Good Luck.

That makes more sense than a door switch it seems to me if the door switch was bad it would indicate an open door not just a courtesy light, I also have another answer form another site that says check the headlight switch, but will check the wires there, 2004 and 2008 are basically interchangeable, have several parts on here 08 that came off a 04.

Yes please, my knowledge of electrical and brain surgery are about the same, Engines themselves I'm OK at, brakes and welding frames and really good at but I'm the one person that can flip a light switch and knock out power for the entire state

Re: Lighting

My 08 SuperCab started having intermittent instances of my interior cab lights coming on—it ended up being a short in my instrument cluster—once I had the cluster repaired due to a (permanent on) brake light issue, the interior lights only come on now when I want them on

So if you’ve had any other issues with your cluster recently, it might be worth having it looked at, if you have a shop locally.

thanks , that makes sense too, I just hope its not my issue because I live in whats known as the middle of nowhere the closest Ford dealer is Ahoskie, where my son works as a lube tech, and he or me are the only people touching my wife's F150, the two mechanics there have the combined iq of a dead cat, thats why the State yard i work at goes either to Blake ford on Franklin Va, or Bill Clough in Windsor

The dome light WILL come on when the dimmer switch is set to full bright.
