Electrical issues after adding LED lights
Hey guys, so this is my first post. I read a lot here, but need some help.
2004 F150 Supercrew, Lariat, 5.4.
I installed an LED light bar in front, with a wireless remote. No problems.
I installed LED light strips in the truck bed, activated by a switch in the bed. No Problems.
Last night, I finally got around to switching the wireless remote to a 5 pin rocker switch in the cab. While doing this, I also ran a new power from a 2nd switch for reverse lights on the back bumper. I seemed to wire everything correctly on the switches. ( I wired the bottom LED lights of the switches to the power of an extra auxiliary connection behind my radio panel. It is an extra one plugged in to nothing right to the right of the cigarette lighter. It is green. That gets power only when the truck is on, or the key is half turned). After checking everything, and everything working as it should be, I went to turn on my truck to move it outside, and everything in the truck died, and there was a loud clicking ( like a relay switch going off and on) coming from between the cab and the truck bed. I had to remove all of my positive and negative wires attached to the battery (LED accessories), remove the battery terminals, replace terminals and it started fine without the accessories connected to the battery. So, I reinstalled the accessories to the battery, and then same thing, won't start, everything dead, and clicking from behind the cab. So I finally left the accessories off of the battery terminals to deal with it today, and now my climate control lights come on, and follow the button choices, but no air is blowing. I do not hear anything come on, or move...nothing. So this morning when I went to go to work, the battery was dead (keep in mind all my accessories were not connected). So I jumped the truck, started up just fine. Got to work.
I plan on going to get my battery checked today, and will check the relay on the blower motor. The blower motor fuses all seemed fine.
My questions are these:
1. Why would LED accessories work fine when the truck is off, and when I half turn the key to power the LED lights, but when I turn on the ignition, everything dies?
2. Why would I have a dead battery, a loss of climate control blower, and clicking from the back of the truck?
3. Could a bad battery (which would be a coincidence, but I don't remember the last time I changed it) cause these problems?
The only thing I can think, is that maybe I don't have the ground from my accessories wired correctly, but again, everything worked as it should before I started the ignition. When I unplug the accessories from the battery, the truck starts fine, with the exception that my blower motor is not turning on.
Thanks in advance for your help. I am sure there is a thread similar to this, but I just couldn't seem to find all together.
