I have a 4.6L 2 valve engine and it is making the ticking/tapping/not so much knocking noise as described all online as explained on the 4.6/5.4 3v engines. I am looking for help with this problem. I have approx. 222.000 miles on this engine and have kept up with regularly oil/ maintenance intervals.

 

Could be valve noise or exhaust leak or other causes. Maybe get a stethoscope of something similar and try to isolate the noise.

Still have your ticking noise? Had it in my 2006 5.4 until I changed my plugs at somewhere around 80k miles. Two of them spun right out by hand once I got the socket on them. Still quiet at 131k.
