Hi guys. I have a 2004 f150 that the fuel pump failed on. I put one in from a 92 but still won't start. It runs on a shot of ether. Just wondering if the 92 pump doesn't put out enough pressure for the 5.4. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Why didn't you get the correct fuel pump?

Check your FPDM for corrosion.

I bought the truck with tranny problems. It's been sitting for a couple of years. Got it running but the fuel pump quit on it. Getting parts where I live is having to wait a week or so. I had a pump from a 92 so I figured I'd try it with no luck. You can hear the pump run but it's not getting to the engine. Like I said it will run on a shot of ether. Just wondering if this pump puts out enough pressure or not

The FPDM controls the fuel pressure. It may or may not be compatible with an old pump, I don't know. 2004 was the first year of the FPDM system.

Found the problem. There's a small plastic piece between the pump and the outlet. Some kind of small chamber. It was plugged up with gunk. Guess that's what happened to the original pump. The older pump does work on it.
