Newbie needs help
 
Hi guys just picked up another 2008 F1 50 with the 5.43 valve engine picked it up for $700 four-wheel-drive extended cab seems to be running on seven cylinders tried switching coil packs and injectors Still no luck runs good when cold and then runs real crappy when it's warmed up please help oh I forgot to mention I already have a 2005 F1 50 super crew cab 5.43 valve and had very little trouble with that one beside spark plugs costed me $2500

Pull the plugs. Do a compression check while the plugs are out.

what should compression be? Could only one cylinder be bad?

New compression is about 170psig. But it can be lower but all cylinders should be fairly close together. The previous owner must have thought something really expensive was wrong to sell it for that price. How many miles are on it?

201,xxx but real clean interior is real nice also starting to bubble around rear wheel wells but other than a few scratches it's really nice I couldn't get the money out of my pocket quick enough

When you do a compression check you are looking for consistency, not an absolute number. Reading the plugs can also give you clues.

If it has the old style heads (black coil boots) expect problems pulling the plugs, same as your 05. If it has the new style with brown boots, those come out straightforward. The changeover was mid year 2008.

plugs have been changed already. The truck was in family since new dads then sons from what I can tell they did regular oil changes etc. there's no ticking or knocking it's really quite besides the injectors and it shakes from the #8 cylinder not firing so I can't believe that motor is blown. Don't have a compression testor maybe auto zone or something. I guess even if I have to rebuild motor it's worth it to me. I got an estimate of $4350 out the door with 3 year unlimited mile warranty so if I have to go that route just might. But I'll take it to a shop if I can't get a testor to check myself.

you stole that thing. Like GLC said, a compression check is your best bet, if you can get all the spark plugs out. if it checks out good, the motor should still be good.
p0012-Variable camshaft timing over-retarded bank
p0022-intake camshaft position timing over retarded bank 2
p0300-random missfire
p0305-cyl 5 missfire
p0307-cyl 7 missfire
p0340-Camshaft Position Sensor
p0345-cam position sensor bank 2
p0349-camshaft Position Sensor 'A' Circuit Intermittent
p0358-Ignition Coil 'H' Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction (8)

i am far from a master tech, but i do see you have a lot of codes for the cam sensor. i had that many DTCs due to a brand new faulty O2 sensor. it would blow the ECM fuse and then go in limp mode. all it takes is one. it sounds like you have a couple problems though.

If you do compression check, i would replace all the plugs while theyre out. use a torque wrench. replace coil 8(or clear codes-move coil 8 to 1 and see it codes change). possibly the cam sensor.
