Exclamation Pinging or rattling?

A few months ago I needed a new engine because the upper timing chain guide was completely gone. After 2500-3000ish miles I've been hearing either a ping or rattle or maybe even a bearing spinning I don't know. It happens when I accelerate up hill. Tried a higher octane fuel with no ethanol to see if that would help and it hasn't. So I'm worried about pulling my 28 ft travel trailer anywhere now. Has anyone or does anyone have any idea what this noise could be?

If your truck is 4WD, the IWE's can be partially engaging during low vacuum conditions, such as pulling hills. This is caused by bad check valves in the vacuum line. Quick check would be to pull the same hill in 4WD and see if it still 'pings'. As long as you don't make sharp turns or leave it engaged long, you will not hurt the system, or just inspect the check valves by blowing (by mouth) one way, then the other and replace if necessary.

Figured it out. Mid grade octane fuel. Filled up the tank twice and took the trailer to the coast this past weekend with no pinging at all.

Starting to believe the IWE theory EBC-150. Checked the solenoid with 4X4 on and off and noticed the CV shafts still turning. Found a guy on Youtube who replaced the hub actuator and looks pretty easy. Just sux because hunting season is around the corner and I NEED to hunt.
