I have had my truck for almost two years now. I bought it when it had 160k miles on it, and as of today I hit 203k. I'm not super hard on it but it seems as if the people who had it before me were. I have been blowing spark plugs out left and right, and I'm tired of it. All of the mechanics local and non local that i talk too tell me i should look into either selling it, or putting a crate motor in it. I dont want to sell it because it was my very first truck. What would/have you all done?

 

Have the plugs been installed using a helicoil? If so, that is why they continue to blow out. You need to use a different method.

No, i have blown out a total of 4 in the last year. Only one has been put in with a helicoil, and it has actually held up. The other 3 have all been different spark plugs. But thanks for the link. I'm going to look into it.

 

One of the members rents out his timesert tool. I forget which one. Maybe someone will chime in with his name.

If the threads get damaged when the plug blows, you need the timesert.

 

I find it interesting that you're blowing plugs out of a 2006. That's not the vintage noted for spitting plugs out. (The 1997 to 2001 trucks were.) That said, the only way I can surmise that plugs are blowing out is that somebody over-torqued them when they put them in. Aluminum heads require proper use of a torque wrench when putting plugs in. Maybe the previous owner had a few too many Red Bulls?

 

If you use Motorcraft plugs, no antiseize, and torque them to 28 ft/lb, they should not blow out. If they do, you need a Timesert.
