Rattling noise in high wind.
Rattling noise in high wind.
I know there is a thread regarding rattling noise in high/strong wind conditions, but I can't find it now..
I have a 2006 F150 Screw King Ranch that has a very loud rattle in windy weather. I can't find anything loose that could be causing that. It's very annoying. Anybody found the cure, or have the link handy to that thread?
Thanks much for any info.

If you have mud flaps that could be it. Also check any and all plastic skirting or covers to see if they are loose. Check the wheel well liners.
I had a 4x that would get a knocking/rattle in high cross winds, it turned out to be the front mud flaps banging against the bottom of the truck.

Pop your hood and clean out any leaves, pine needles or any other junk that's accumulated under your windshield cowl. I had this rattle/buzzing sound that drove me nuts, turns out it was just a leaf buzzing when wind blew it at high speed.
Thanks.
I know that my rubber cowl end peices were the cause of the noise that you are talking about.
What did you do to fix it? Replace the cowl pieces? Or the weatherstripping that is in there? Those little push pin fasteners seem to be a bit loose. Maybe I should replace them?
Thanks.
Thanks.

But I did see on eBay that you can buy just the rubbers ends for a few bucks. Going to replace mine next spring.
Drobson, any luck? I'd appreciate a pic of the part you're replacing. My '08 Screw started doing this recently and it's making me a bit batty. At first, I thought it may have always been and it was just that my recent driving of my '16 Explorer made me suddenly realize how loud the truck normally is. But, it is actually a new noise, I think.
I had a rattle that I thought was near the windshield, It turned out to be the headliner just behind the sunroof. There is a TSB for some foam pads to be installed. I will wait until the weather is warmer to do that.
Rattling Noise in High Wind
Drobson...The only information that I have, is what it's NOT. I too have that same noise, maybe from the glove box or could it be the weather stripping at the top of the window!?! I have asked that question long enough. I can tell you that it's not ....
The mud flaps, leaves, weather stripping, cowling at wipers, radio antenae being loose, fender flares, wheel well liner, passenger mirror loose, loose emblem on passenger fender, I am losing my mnd!! I even replaced the windsheild thinking it was loose. I have had at least 10 different people riding for the sole purpose of locating THAT noise. I do a lot of highway driving (3K/month), and have been dealing with that for over 130K. I have plans to remove the headliner next weekend, I will let you know - hang in there until then!! I will find out what that is.

My wipers will vibrate/rattle on the windshield, on occasion. I have to be driving in the right direction with the wind blowing in a certain direction. The dealer told me it was turbulence from my bug shield.
