Mad as hell!

Opened my garage door this morning and started backing out and hear a loud crunching sound. Damn door did not fully open as it has for 19 years. End result: broken upper brake/cargo lamp housing, and scrapes and scratches on the roof. $115.00 for replacement housing, and may be able to buff out most of the scratches.

Why the door malfunctioned today is beyond me. It's worked fine several times after this. Jeez!

Not that I can see. I guess it's tougher than Ford tough.

A stale chocolate chip cookie is tougher than a ford.

If you don't need the housing today, check eBay. I got a used mint condition third brake light housing for $35 last year.

I'd be more worried about the garage door itself. A brake light housing is much cheaper than repairs to a garage door.

I do construction, demo, wiring work on the side, and I helped install a premium Wayne Dalton garage door and those darn parts are frackin' expensive!

Angry

Already purchased one from my local dealer, and installed it this morning. I've checked the garage door over, and operated it several times, and works just like it's supposed to. Sure wish it had worked properly this one time, though.

You know.. I was just thinking... this same thing almost happened to me at one time with one of my garage doors.

I hit the button twice accidently. When you hit the button the first time, it starts going up or down (which ever way it was headed towards), and you hit it again, it stops to leave it ajar at a certain height. Luckily I usually park my vehicles by backing them in, so when I looked up when I was leaving I noticed that it wasn't up all the way. Luckily for me I noticed, and then hit the button again and it went down, then pressed it again it went all the way up.

Might've been user error like in my case.

Not user error. I have a button in the kitchen that operates the door, which has a light that comes on when the door is open. Light was on when I went outside, indicating the door was up. It has to go all the way up to light the light. I suppose it's possible that it bumped the switch and for some strange reason it must have dropped an inch or two.

Guess I'll never know the reason it malfunctioned. I will, however, take a look at it before I start backing out.
