One key remote start

I bought an 06 xlt a couple of weeks ago, it only has one pats key. I called a dealer and up here in Canada they want $350 -$400 for another programed key!
I thought about getting some cut and putting my pats key or chip on the ignition ring but I was also thinking I'd like remote start.
Am I correct in thinking if I get a 556uw bypass that I put my pats key in, I should be able to start the truck with remote start always and just use a cut key to turn the ignition to the on position so I can put it in gear?
Thanks

Redneck PATS Bypass

putting my pats key or chip on the ignition ring
If you do that, you do not need the extra bypass kit for the remote start.

For most reliable reception of the key, it needs to be inside the ring. On my old Conturd, I dismounted the transceiver ring, zip-tied a programmed keyhead (the shank was already broken) inside it, then secured the whole thing as far up inside the dash as possible. I call that a "Redneck PATS Bypass".

Now, there is one complication with having only one programmed key on a PATS system that requires two for user programming if you have the only programmed key stuffed up under the dash. If you ever have to have the PCM or cluster replaced, you will then need to 'pay the piper'. That key needs to come out and be functional and, at that time, be programmed into the newly repaired system. That would be a good time to buy a new key and have it programmed since the extra labor is minimal.

Going to tackle this Wednesday , I have a avital 4103
It seems like there are going to be lots of wires I don't need to use
Do I need to hook up the tach wire?
Or the neutral/switch wire that I can find no information about in the 06 wiring

And I found a locksmith who can program me a key for $65

Wouldn't doing that just bypass what the pats system is supposed to do? Which is making your truck harder to steal, anybody can just rip,off your steering shroud and hot wire that thing now.......

I live in a pretty rural low crime area, I leave keys in my vehicle in driveway all the time. If anyone comes within a 100 yards of our driveway our dogs are flipping out!
Since I found a locksmith who can make a cheap key I probably won't put one in the ignition coil. I'm only going to use remote start in driveway and my key will be in the ignition. Guess I can lock it with key in ignition if I have to
Not likely to steal my 06 I paid $4000 for , they'll go for my neighbours 2015 lol

Who is going to know about it? You're not going to advertise the bypass.

Professional thieves already know which vehicles have PATS and won't waste time trying to hot wire one. Kids looking for a quick joy-ride aren't going to be smart enough anyway.

If you install a "LIVE" and completely functional key inside the PATS bypass module on a remote start, the most common configuration, doesn't that make it easier also? Yet, there's no epidemic of stolen drive-away thefts due to the scumbags finding the concealed key.

All three of the big bypass companies have key cloning tech now. Fortin-Dycryptor idatalink-KLON xpresskit-key2go

All very simple to install and clone your key for the starter install

I didn't use the bypass with the spare key, I paid the extra and use the one without the key, completely electronic. Just my opinion that bypassing the PATS system making the truck easier to steal isn't really an upgrade. I live in NJ cars get stolen every other minute. I know lots of people with cars that get smashed into and looted, but not stolen if they had some kind of security.

I know of a guy who had a brand new Mercedes with the Lojack type locator on it, professional thieves followed him, staked out the car. When he was at work they stole it, and by time they started tracking it they tracked it to a seaport and it's gone forever. The thieves directly drove it to a container ship, disabled the tracking, and that was it. Some guy overseas is enjoying his new S-class, believe it was an AMG too.
