Upper control arms and steering rack
Upper control arms and steering rack
Do I have to remove the strut assembly in order to remove the bolts for the upper control arms? Also is there a write up for how to remove the power steering rack and pump?
'Search' for the latter.
Generally speaking, the rod is only exposed at suspension "full droop." This only occurs when you lift the truck up into the air. Said another way, the rod is hardly ever exposed - and it's plated to resist the elements. I wouldn't worry about it unless the rod becomes rusted. If that happens, the rust will cut through the seals and cause the unit to to leak in pretty short order.
Some shocks / struts use an accordion style cover, but it really doesn't do much except keep large rocks out of the area.
