4x4 not engaging light on half shaft turnig

2004 ford f150 Lariat Super Crew 4x4
My 4x4 is not engaging I replaced solenoid behind battery the light goes on and off supposed to. Half shaft spins when engaged. Will the half shaft spin if the transfer case is not working? If the hubs are engaged will that turn the half shaft?

What you mean by the shafts spin? Where you watching as someone was driving the truck or have the truck jacked up and was spinning tire by hand? The 4wd works by vacuum to engage and disengage the front tires. Whether the transfer case is locked in or not as long as the iwe are engaged the shafts will spin when the front tires rotate.

Hi thx for reply...yes I stuck my head under the truck while moving watched the half shaft engage and then disengage. So when engaged the half shaft spins now does that mean the transfer case is spinning it or the hubs/wheel ends? i meant to mention earlier that I think my four-wheel-drive actually disengaged while driving on the highway because all of a sudden my rear end spun out (torque transfer) and there was no 4 x 4 if that helps

As long as the iwe aka hubs are engaged it doesn't matter if the transfer case is locked in or not. Every time the tires rotate the shafts will spin. There is a motor on the side of the transfer case that engages 4wd. There is a post some where on here giving you a whole run down of the 4wd system. I'm on my phone or I would find it for you.
