What did the heavy duty trailer package give me?
Hi there everyone.
I have a 2007 F150 5.4 3V Lariat and just discovered that the original owner purchased the optional heavy duty trailer towing package. My question: What all did this give me over stock? can my truck pull more weight? Does it effect my launch speed? Does anyone have the Specs? Thanks Guys. |
I think the only way it would have an effect on the launch speed is if it had 4:10s, which would give you a bit more low end. Interested to hear from those familiar with that setup.

I'm pretty sure the tow package is just the 4/7-pin wiring connector, Class IV receiver hitch, and aux tranny cooler. There could be an upgraded radiator, but I doubt it. Gear ratio is independent of the trailer package, so you could have 3.55, 3.73, or 4.10's with the trailer tow package.

heavy duty package is 7bolt wheel doesn't it?
if not only : hitch 4/7 harness and transmission cooler |
I'm pretty sure a 7 bolt wasn't offered in this generation.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I kept doing additional research by way of a Ford dealor supplied with my VIN #. I discovered I actually have the 3.73. Additionally, I found this for any other 07 guys out there: http://www.fleet.ford.com/resources/...guideApr08.pdf |
so what did the hd towing package include on your truck?

Over stock, the Heavy Duty Towing package gave me:
1.) 72 Amp HD battery 2.) 7 wire harness 4/7 Pin Connector 3.) Hitch Receiver 4.) 9 channel Auxiliary Auto Trans Cooler 5.) Radiator Upgrade |

I guess Ford assumes all of their trucks can tow/haul from the factory but this option allows for longer durability resulting from better cooling. Not to mention it is ready to go right from the factory with the beefed up receiving hitch.
In any event, I always thought the battery was abnormally large; but I love it as I can/have run pretty much anything and everything off this battery. Again, check out this link: http://www.fleet.ford.com/resources/...guideApr08.pdf It details all Ford towing specs from that year including what I have... the "535" option. |
I don't know about 2008 but in 2010 trucks, the standard tow package gets you a five? channel trans cooler instead of a 9 channel. I think std tow package uses a lighter hitch (bumper hitch?) as well.
You need to get the 2008 spec sheet and read it CAREFULLY. Both tow packages include a lot of the same items but the ones in the MAX tow package should be heavier duty so you'd have to get into the detailed specs to find out. BTW I think MAX tow also includes heavier rear (and front?) springs, at least starting with 09 models. |
Well, all trucks come std with the bumper hitch and 4-pin connector, etc. It's not really a "package" if it come standard on all models unless you select the trailer tow package.

i see that package now thanks
