Any info greatly appreciated!!! Problem with my 05

Need a step in the right direction maybe someone can help.

Ok a few months ago, I started noticing a small problem. My 2005 Ford F150 5.4 started to sputter a little. Not huge just a little while I was driving.

About 2 months ago, my truck started to sputter and started sounding like a diesel engine. I had loss of power and it would not accelerate. Then the engine light came on.

Did some research on this, and the only solution we found was that the Selonoids had to be replaced. Had them repalced and my truck seemed to get better. Once again, a few days later my engine light came on again. Took it to Autozone and the guy said that it sounds like I had some bad gas.
So buy a Lucas Gas treatment and it should clean it right up.

Well, once again it started to roll prettty good. 2 days ago, my truck started to expiernece the same problem and the engine light came on. Took it to Mechanic and he said that 3 codes popped up. And that I would need to replace the gas pedal along with the sensor. This should fix the problem.

My concern is one, I dont want to spend $400 when it might be something else. From the research Ive done I really dont think thats the problem. I know its an electrical problem, but I have no idea from what or where.

Any info will be appreciated

And the plugs have not been changed? That may be all your problem.

I've read the throttle position sensor error code can be caused by another underlying issue. You mentioned the truck began to sputter a bit, I would look at the plugs, COPs first. I had a slight sputter develop around that amount of mileage and changed them out.

So a misfire would cause my truck to react this way?

The throttle position error is the code you get when the throttle body needs to be cleaned. That also needs to be done by 100,000 miles. If bad enough, it will throw the engine into fail safe mode.

It doesn't cost much to clean the throttle body. Clean the MAF at the same time. If the plugs have not been changed, again, I would get them change.

Ok thanks, Im planning on cleaning it this weekend, as well as replacing the plugs.
Im assuming this is something I can do instead of having to go to a mechanic?

I think there is a writeup on cleaning in the Articles and How To section. I know there is one on cleaning the MAF. Check the index. Also, use the Search button above, click on Advanced Search and look for throttle body cleaning. You should get some reading.

So I'm going to try and switch out the spark plugs. Read I'm going to need a special tool in case they break. So.... Does anyone on here have this tool I can buy from or borrow from?

I bought the tool off of amazon for about $65. It's called the Lisle 65600 Ford Triton Spark Plug Extractor. You may be able to find a better price than that elsewhere online.
